Tarting up Karnak

Apparently the current restoration work at Karnak involves re- colouring the columns of the hypostyle hall.

I’m not sure this is a good idea.....

I remember people commenting on the cartouches under the cross beams and remarking how fresh the colour looked after 3,500 years.

Now the oft heard comment.. “ looks like it was done last week”...will have more than a grain of truth :(

Hopefully they will leave it alone, or it will lose it's authenticity.

Tell the tourists to go to Rameses 3 temple on the WB if they want to see more colourful original painted stone. 😎

Correction!!

I’ve been told that there’s no re-colouring! The spectacular improvement is the result of simply cleaning off centuries of dust and grime.

I’m pleased to hear it.
