Another increase in entrance fees

Visiting prices to tourist spots to change in 2018: Antiquities Ministry

Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities stated on Sunday that the visiting fees for tourist areas and museums will be increased in February 2018, notably including the Giza Pyramids, Saqqara Pyramids, Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, Islamic Art Museum and

the Saladin Citadel of Cairo, in addition to the Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel temples.
No changes will occur in the visiting fees to Moez street, Beni Hassan and Tel Amarna, in addition to Tomb of Akhenaten, Graves of nobles in West Aswan, Temple of Kalabsha and Manial Palace Museum.

The ministry’s statement added that taking photos and videos in museums will for Egyptians cost LE50 instead of the current LE20.

Free access to Egyptian museums will be allowed for tours organized by governmental primary and intermediary schools.

The ticket price of visits by university and secondary school students to museums will be fixed at five pounds.

The annual fees of visits for secondary stage school students will be reduced to LE50 and university students will pay LE125.

Holders of the Cairo Pass card will enjoy a 50 percent deduction on ticket prices for visits to archaeological sites and museums when they purchase a Luxor Pass card.

Egyptians over 60 will be allowed to freely enter museums as of February 2018.

Details of increases , monuments affected etc....details to come, I suppose

I wonder if the over-60 free entrance to museums applies to foreign residents? Probably not.

Price increase ? 'get a grip...
Once in a life time visit and your worrying over pence...
Over 60 and foreign ? Well if you haven't already seen the odd tomb, tough! If you've' seen one seen the lot,
and it's hardly on the top of one's bucket list. Unless your looking for a final resting place... 8)

Get the cash rolling in!!! Like the Dr says a one time thing. Added on they really have not got a clue how to attract tourists back, so obviously they do not want them....

With the exchange rate at it's present level still cheap and I have been to the tombs many times never tire of them. There is always something to see that you didn't notice before and the lack of tourists means you can take your time and not feel rushed. Great time to visit.

I've not compared the prices but it was announced this week (I posted yesterday on Visiting in Luxor) that there is now a discount on the Cairo or Luxor Pass - that is if you buy the Luxor Pass you can get 50% off the Cairo Pass and vice versa. I've read some people have already managed to take advantage of this deal.
