New archaeological discoveries to be revealed soon: Minister

By: Egypt Today staff Mon, Jul. 10, 2017

CAIRO – 10 July 2017: Khaled El-Anany, Minister of Antiquities announced Monday during his visit to Damietta governorate that the coming days will witness the announcement of an important archaeological discovery that will astonish the whole world.

Anany refused to disclose what the discovery is or reveal where it was made. “I will leave it to speculations.’’ He said adding that it is a graveyard dating back to the Pharaonic era. Anany pointed out that the announcement of the discovery will be made in the presence of ambassadors in Cairo.

The minister also said that he invited ambassadors in Cairo during the extraction of an Absmatic statue from the Matareya district of Cairo to join the people who gathered to see the process.

Enany noted that the presence of ambassadors among people in an ordinary district sends a reassuring message to the world that Egypt is safe.

Year 2017 witnessed very important archaeological discoveries. The most important was on May 13 when Anany announced that archaeologists at Cairo University have discovered catacombs including 18 non-royal mummies in Tuna el-Gebel, in Minya Governorate, south of Cairo.

A discovery that will “astonish the whole world” is a pretty bold statement, lets hope so, :up but it would need to be on the scale of Tutankhamun to live up to that claim.

Watch this space for the new announcement, dying to know what it will be. I do wonder though why if he had such an important audience (all the Ambassadors) why he didn't make the announcement there and then?

As far as announcements coming from Egypt these days, he's up against some stiff competition

I'm assuming this is it.

Egypt announces the details of the discovery of a mass grave of the Pharaohs in Luxor
Posted By: adminon: September 07, 2017In: Luxor news

On Saturday, Egyptian Minister of Antiquities Dr. Khaled Al-Anani will hold a press conference in Luxor Governorate to announce the details of the new archaeological discovery, which was found in the Abu Naga area on the western bank of Luxor.

Officials at the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities said that the archaeological discovery is a mass grave for the poor in the Pharaonic era. It contained dozens of coffins, Pharaonic mummies and statues.

According to head of the Luxor Antiquities Agency Mustafa Waziri, the tomb will be a big surprise. It outnumbered the statues discovered inside the Alushabti site last April. This necropolis contains 1,400 statues of different sizes, as well as coffins with mummies and masks belonging to the owner of the cemetery, with painted colors preserved for thousands of years.

A mass grave for the poor, my goodness all the gold and treasures they find in that should help pay back the money owed.

There was a major discovery announced last April....the tomb of a judge, Userhat, which appears to have been used for a number of reburials.

https://phys.org/news/2017-04-archaeolo ... luxor.html

This latest announcement, and the reference to "pharaonic mummies", may indicate that they've found a cache of royal family mummies in the same, or nearby, tomb...or it may simply refer to more mummies of the pharaonic era.

Although most of the New Kingdom pharaohs' mummies were discovered over a century ago , a few are still missing along with many minor royals. It's unlikely there will be any "treasure" with them, apart from amulets contained in the mummy wrappings. There is evidence that the priests of the 21st dynasty had a "clear out" of royal tombs which were subject to repeated robberies, and the two caches discovered in the 19th century account for but a fraction of the New Kingdom royalty.

Presumably we'll be told more tomorrow.

Either way, the discovery is more likely to be of interest to egyptologists than the general public.

We need to learn the difference between the True Ancients and the imposters, who did a lot of repurposing and recycling.
And pick your way thorough 2000 years worth of lies of gargantuan proportions.

I have a very strong feeling this has to do with the pre history Ancient Greeks making a huge error of judgement, and underestimating a certain opponent.

While you were sleeping, the Apocalypse has started, and the clouds have kept your eyes to the floor rather than the heavens..

Expect more "revelations" very soon... 8)

A TOMB AND FOUR MORE!

The much awaited press conference was conducted this morning, in which news of the discovery of a tomb of a goldsmith at Dra Abu el-Naga was announced. The inscriptions in the tomb of this individual, Amenemhat, have revealed insights into his family—particularly his wife and son.
Dr Mustafa Waziri, who headed the mission said that digging had been on-going for the past five months, through the Ramadan period. He was confident that further archaeological digs will yield the whereabouts of "four more tombs in the area". A small, but crucial, number of finds were made in Amenemhat's tomb. Funerary masks, cones, shabti figurines, pottery and some jewellery; including mummies and skeletal remains came to light here.
The 18th Dynasty tomb was re-used during the Third Intermediate Period.
"The minister gave the exact century of use as 15 century B.C. and revealed that it was reused during the 11th and 10th centuries B.C." explains journalist, Owen Jarus.

Not really the earth-shattering discovery presaged by the minister's earlier hyperbole

Here's a video of an interesting trip round the tomb and what's going on.
