Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim announced today the discovery of King Sobekhotep (1786-1763) who is probably the first King of the 13th Dynasty.
The tomb discovered by Pennsylvania University mission working south of Abydos, Sohag.

I doubt it. The sarcophagus was found first, obviously empty.

I'm not sure if they found a lid. Apparently they found the sarcophagus a year ago, but only now identified the owner.

Thanks Glyph, I have put King Sobekhotep on my Google alerts, so hopefully some better pictures will emerge soon..
Looks like some damage happened inside,
my first thoughts was that it was a sarcophagus for a character off Minecraft..
My Grandson's favourite game.. he's pretty good at it, and he's only 8, Bless..

Good idea, although this story has gotten shockingly little coverage so far, which is a bit sad. Perhaps because the press release was only in Arabic. Or maybe there's no room on the front pages for any more headlines from Egypt.
