Apparently the current restoration work at Karnak involves re- colouring the columns of the hypostyle hall.
I’m not sure this is a good idea.....

I remember people commenting on the cartouches under the cross beams and remarking how fresh the colour looked after 3,500 years.

Hopefully they will leave it alone, or it will lose it's authenticity.
Tell the tourists to go to Rameses 3 temple on the WB if they want to see more colourful original painted stone.

Correction!!
I’ve been told that there’s no re-colouring! The spectacular improvement is the result of simply cleaning off centuries of dust and grime.
