Thanks Who2
A wonderful collection. It’s great that his FB account has been left open.
Only met him once....although we collaborated on a book.

Re: Photography.
Carrie and I did a trip to Abydos with Stan, I think in 2012. Stan had a new phone with GPS, and as we left the main temple he navigated and directed the driver to the royal pyramid there - the highlight of the day!!! Very knowledgable man and excellent company! On subsequent trips I’ve never been able to find the pyramid again, although, as I remember, we saw it from the main road through the village.

Re: Photography.
Remember it well a great day out.
Such a prolific photographer he hated having his photo taken himself.
He used to be with a German girl named Maria she was whacky, took photos of Stan in the mountains, where they had camped out all night, dancing with those finger bell things.
He even gave up the stella for her and became a veggie for a time. Happy days.

Re: Photography.
I was thinking of Sue earlier today and I believe she had Stan's complete photograph collection as she'd known him for many years, even before he lived in Luxor. She was trying to catalogue and archive what she had. I wonder what happened to them after she died.
I chose my present camera largely on a photograph of the moon that Stan had posted, and the comments that followed. He had bought his latest camera not that long before he died and was very pleased with the results. I needed a new camera but had no idea what to get. Knowing he read a lot of camera/photographic magazines, understood the subject, and took such good photographs, I took that all as my recommendation. I've no regrets. My camera is bigger than I had originally intended buying, but the results are worth it.

Re: Photography.
To think it is to create it!
Anyhow my view at the back of the posh houses overlooking our square and twixt what used to be Merlin St Baths.
Is being tree surgery'd, these boys a team of four have the lot even a tree 'chomperupper in our street.
I wonder how much they are charging ?
'I really must invest in a better camera...
Mo below (depending on one's perspective) charges me 200le for 6 trees...
Bet they are charging a bit more than that, this lot could climb everest...
Ps: Speaking as an ex 'shiner...one who shines windows!
Now I'll be able to see St James and St Paul's for easter unless.... must dash the tree chopperupper has started..
'tick-tock..

This months local magazine Echo EC1, 'bumped my article in favour of one by Rick Astley, ffs 'all he has is a closed
bar with a couple of micro brewery tanks in the back, it's called Mikkeller.
Anyhow found this rather good photographic wander around the manor from a few years back.

It's just as it looks today..
It's like going out for a walk around from my armchair, where's my beer ?.......
Ps: Rick Astley ?... 'I'll never live it down..

Re: Photography.
Well Who2, you certainly triggered a blast from the past with this topic. I never met Stan but did correspond with him on photography matters and to gain local Luxor info. Apart from all his pictures on FB he also had an excellent website about Egypt with loads of great photos, can't remember the web address just now.
Back then in the early 2000's we used to have the monthly photo comp and I well remember competing each month with Stans' entry. I note that the 'Photo Competition' section no longer appears in the Board Index, shame because there were lots of great pictures in there from many members.
Who2, I really enjoyed looking at the pictures of Clerkenwell/Spitalfields. I am a big fan of monochrome as appears to be the style of most of the pictures. One that stands out for me is 'Sekforde Arms' which I think has a little colour but is technically a very good image........could have just straightened the buildings a bit.

Re: Photography.
Just been looking back at some of Stan's stuff and was reminded of his 'signature' line
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!
I had to laugh, so appropriate for Stan.....
