Kharga Oasis

Post by Brian Yare » Mon May 09, 2011 10:16 pm

At present the Museum and the Temple of Hibis are both closed. The Sol y Mar Pioneers is suffering from lack of use and the best thing to say about Kharga is that, in Arabic, it means "point of departure". But the temples to the south of Kharga were all open and well worth a visit.

The museum isn't finished yet but is due to open any time soon and the Temple has been closed for years whilst excavation/restoration work has been in progress.

But both have been open in the recent past, or I would not have entrance prices for them.

All I want to do is let fellow travellers know that they are currently closed. Other attractions in the area are less 'important' but still worth a visit.

So now you are bothered whether a site is open or not? I suppose that is a step in the right direction.

The museum may be closed for refurbishment now, but it was certainly open last September when I visited it. Yes, the Hibis temple also was closed, but when one of our party protested that Zahi had written on his site that it was open and phoned Mr Mansour in Luxor, we quickly got permission to visit it.
I might agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong!
