Not when it comes to giving change, sub-standard food, food you did not order, food you can not eat. No, they are not all like this, but far to many to keep a book of recommendations. And that does not take into consideration the filthy w.c's. Every coffee shop i've been in always charge double the price at least compared to local's price.

You get to know the place to use for the best prices, but the place in question is in Ramla, and that is a complete den of iniquity, the only place I use is the El Filala, next to the Crocodile Restaurant, reasonable friendly and privacy.
It seems that everywhere in Ramla has radio bugs under the table, everyone there wants to know your business and somewhere there must be a school to teach the best way to rip people off, for they are the best in Luxor.
Dreadful place, just wants knocking down and starting again, wonder if there are any legally built places there?????

No, you don't get away with paying half the requested price in the UK. But then again, businesses in the UK don't tend to get away with charging foreigners double! This would be considered to be blatant discrimination (which it clearly is) and would be a prosecutable offence.Kevininabydos wrote:That is my point Stan! You quite often get a discount because you, a Brit live here but the Brit tourists at the next table do not. What made you think it wouldn't be expensive any way, a new restaurant/cafe over looking Luxor in a new Governorate building with high rents...... Egyptians watching football on a restaurant/cafe TV tend to smoke sheesha and have chi which is standard price to Egyptians everywhere outside the hotels. You are lucky they didn't send the police after you which was within their rights to do! You wouldn't have got away with that in the UK.LivinginLuxor wrote: I don't ask for discounts, by the way, Kevin. I think that the best answer to that was given by Mohammed, the owner of the Ramesseum Rest - You pay the same as an Egyptian because you are one of our brothers!

Why do people keep saying that the Ramla is a den of iniquity? I'm obviously missing something. I venture over fairly frequently for a swim at the Gezira Gardens, and have been mildly propositioned on occasions, but certainly no more than on the East Bank, and actually with a bit more finesse! I know that there are some dodgy property deals associated wih the Ramla, but not sure where the reputation for iniquity stems from. I've never been overcharged in the shops there either. It always seems a bit sedate and uneventful there to me! Perhaps I'm just a bit slow on the uptake!Chocolate Eclair wrote:You get to know the place to use for the best prices, but the place in question is in Ramla, and that is a complete den of iniquity, the only place I use is the El Filala, next to the Crocodile Restaurant, reasonable friendly and privacy.
