Manufacturing Something French That Kills

Post by Hafiz »

Egyptian Manufacturing Skills – Military.

Al Pravda (Cairo affiliate) has Egypt leading the world in Naval Military manufacturing. Wish it was the case. No I don't.

According to them the French Naval ships bought by the Worlds Greatest Navy - corvettes - have been built in Egypt.

The new, expensive French naval corvettes are in truth just being assembled in Alex. They are manufactured in France in modules, transported carefully, by the French, to Alex and put together in Egypt under French management.

The work in Egypt is robotic. Others who have built these ships have looked for better options for their own people than just the mere work of a primate in a zoo.

The head of the French company that made the ship says not a single word to Egyptian media about Egyptian achievement/skills. Wonder why – usually a press conference is when you toss the flowers http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent ... -own-.aspx

The same corvettes have also been bought by other places with better management, military and manufacturing skills – like Malaysia (which adapted the design for their purposes – a sensible alternative to supermarket style shopping for expensive dangerous things). They have required that a high percentage of components be locally manufactured by local firms and have had no truck with this Leggo assembly system that Egypt thinks so great. The Malaysians used a specialist local company Boustead, to do the building because no sane person would allow an Admiral to do this – but Egypt did. The Malaysians have taken risks and upgraded to a frigate class using the corvette module, because frigates kill/frighten.

Lets hope that the Alex manufacturing staff haven’t put the French bits together using Hawass skills – sticky tape/plasticine/home glue – because these won’t work with steel. (does anyone think that if this museum idiot/highly trained conservator did it with the most valuable object in Egypt that it wasn’t previously done in scores/hundreds of other less important cases that were never revealed in the press? Ignoring his poor judgment maybe they had no better products to do the job/this was how they usually did it. I suspect that this matter is just the tip of the iceberg of Hawass’s great achievements)

As with most French military technology/hardware, most don’t want it and there are few buyers. In any event a corvette has a problem in the region. It is neither fast enough to deal with insurgents nor powerful enough to deal with a proper navy – Israel or Turkey for example. These and other Egyptian Naval tat are also vulnerable to Russian/Iranian technology via attack with missiles. Lets hope the Egyptian navy can swim or their bloated officer class, float.

All this French and Russian military shopping is to send a message to the US that there are other sellers and the US can’t dictate strategic terms. In reality it shows that the shopper is a mentally defective cousin with a blank cheque book – a well known character in the region.

Having three sets of technology/communications systems across three sets of military products will require lots of training and high intelligence – neither of which exists. It’s a bit like the VHS problem trebled.

Buying a French Naval product is very odd. They haven’t been a Naval power for 200 years and their last 4 naval battles ended as follows – Dakar, the allies sunk and destroyed the Nazi-French fleet, Toulon, the Nazi-French fleet after refusing to defect to the allies scuttled itself rather than be taken over by the Germans (they did the scuttling quite well), Mers el Kebir where we managed to kill lots of French and destroy their ships and the naval battle of Casablanca where we again killed lots of French and destroyed elements of their useless (but state of the art and very modern) navy. Of course all this would be known to the Egyptian Admirals and Egyptian naval scholars – identity a national secret. The French military Naval IT industry is nothing to write home about.

I really don't like the French.

I thought freedom loving countries had killed off any and all French naval skills ages ago and with little effort. The French Army 'effort' in the last 200 years is no better - universal defeat. Worse than this be the large scale and sustained revolt of their army in 1917 - a superbly concealed breakdown in military discipline unprecedented in any other modern army.

The need to build a new high tech navy from near scratch (there are several billions of not very good German submarines also on the way that no one else wants to buy) raises the question of how all this machinery matches a threat. Its a bit like a battalion of armored Rolls Royce’s trying to deal with soccer hooligans that uses high tech planes, weapons of mass destruction (in the past illegal air-dropped gas on civilians – Mubarak and Nasser authorized these and tanks to fight peasants in Yemen 62-67, failed miserably and learnt nothing).

As with 60 years ago the issue is not expensive hardware but the need for well trained troops, skilled hard-working officers who don’t want to thieve and initiative/flexibility and strategic planning skills. None of these existed 60 years ago and are still absent.

What we know from their ‘academic’ work in US war colleges is that thinking is still not a skill in the Egyptian army but spouting dogma is – along with low IQ.

The two major threats are that the Egyptians will tip the Junta out or that terrorists will make the country ungovernable (or both) – all other threats are beyond their capacity. If it kicks off with Iran no one will want Egypt to ‘help’ – except listing them on the press releases and a couple of photos of their troops in a victory parade (something denied them in the Kuwait war where they were the only ones sent home before the end and not for good performance).

The worst countries in the world buy their killing hardware on condition that the high price they have paid builds local jobs – not just ones in 5 star New York City Hotels with lots of surplus suitcases that need to be 'relocated' to Switzerland. 5 decades of Egypt receiving free US military hardware has barely developed the skills to even well deliver the pumping of petrol into tanks.

No country in the world ignores that what they are doing is merely walking up and down the supermarket aisle.

Its amazing that a military junta that has failed in all military matters in 70 years is nevertheless highly regarded by Egyptians and given the job of successive efforts mismanaging the country. Propaganda, a broken education system and small brains works – on both sides of the equation, as is clear from this latest pack of lies in al Pravda.

Nothing wrong with zee French except the girls have hairy armpits, but as I haven't been to Paris for many a year,
they might have learnt about Epilation, 'never been keen on hairy women.
I used to live in Rue du Bac 5th floor, Paris was brilliant then.
We had a jewelry business called Chardin in the Rue du Temple... 8)
