Pyramids clean up.

Post by newcastle »

Egypt's government has decided to hire private companies to manage, maintain and secure the area around the Pyramids of Giza, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.

A meeting took place on Tuesday between Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and officials from the housing ministry, the tourism ministry and the antiquities ministry, during which the government announced the details of the pyramids development project, stating that a company has already been hired for EGP 5 million a year to maintain cleanliness in the area.

Yes, that seems a good decision! And I can see why.

Lets hope they give the workers a decent wage and also make a rule that any recyclable items must be taken back to the depot.

From what i saw in Luxor around most streets was that the street cleaners was more interested in picking up recyclable stuff and then taking it to the many recyclable units around Luxor to get some money rather than clean the streets properly. I don't blame them though with the **** wages they got, along with maybe a broken barrow and a home made falling to bits brush, this is what Amoun (A French company) supplied them with.

Brian - thank you very much - these old videos only make the point that the situation has got worse. The Pyramids are now a toilet. - without a toilet.

The King might have been, as the CIA so elegantly described him at the time, 'Fat Fu**ker', but the Jews, Armenians,English who ran the place with less economic oppression (impossible to prove) and some liberties. None of those liberties are currently apparent. and there is scant economic performance to prove that their expulsion was to anyone's benefit. Except, of course, for those who acquired their appropriated assets for one cent in the dollar.

Did you notice that the video stated that the bulk of the clean-up work at the Pyramids was done by females. How advanced for this period that Egyptian women would have been given Western wage labour jobs.

In the 50's Egypt was a middle income country - but after decades of careful socialistic/central planning/kleptocracy it is poor. Other , previously poor, countries, China, Vietnam, India etc are now rich.

All the Jews and other 'alien. elements are 'gone'. Their assets 'given' to the state or nationals. Including some mismanaged Luxor assets. For those now looking for new 'solutions' there are few current alien economic forces to blame for local problems - or new assets to seize.

Only a fool would assume that the future would be different from the past
