Egypt and its people are the responsibility of the army and the police: Sisi

Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said that the celebration of the 6 October victory is for all Arabs who stood by Egypt in these difficult days. “Egypt and its people are the responsibility of the army and the police,” he said. “The armed forces and the police are stationed on the border and in the streets to secure Egypt and its people.”

At a seminar celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 6 October victory, Sisi thanked the people of Sinai for the sacrifices they made to get Sinai back, and for helping the army in the war on terror.

He also apologized to them for the inadvertent damages that were caused to buildings or land in the course of operations, asserting them that they would be compensated.

He also saluted the people of Dabaa and Matrouh for their gallantry and chivalry, and the families of the martyrs and the injured of the October War who achieved victory.

Sisi warned of mixing religion with politics, and of turning a political dispute over a regime that failed to meet the demands of the people into a religious conflict and a war on Islam.

He denounced attempts to discredit the army and destroy Egypt, stressing that the army will not allow the shedding of one drop of blood in Egypt.

He called on everyone to be aware of the size of the problems facing the community, which requires a quick end to the transitional period in accordance with the roadmap that was agreed by all national forces so that stability and security are restored.

Sisi honored a number of army officers for their glorious contributed to the October victory, including Abdel Moneim Khalil, commander of the Second Field Army during the October War of 1973, Major General Hussein Mahmoud Abdel Wahab Kassiba of the Air Force, Brigadier Ahmed Kamal al-Mansoury of the Air Forces, Admiral Hamid Fattouh Nassef, Commodore Islam Tawfiq Mohamed Qasim, Major General Mohamed Abdallah Eid Abu Nema, Brigadier Ayman Sayed Ahmed of the Air Forces, Major General Ahmed Gabr Ahmed Hanafy, Brigadier Atef Mohamed Abdu Monsef, Major General Ahmed Alam Eddin Abdel Wahed, and Major General Talaat Ahmed Muslim of the special forces.

He also honored the families of the martyrs and endorsed the promotion of the martyrs of terrorism to the next rank as of the day before they died on duty.

He honored police officers who were killed in the recent events, including Nabil Farag, assistant director of the Giza Security, Ahmed Aboul Dahab of the Giza Security Directorate, and Lieutenant Mostafa Yehya Gawesh of the North Sinai central security.

Also at the seminar, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, former foreign minister and planner of Egypt’s national security during the preparation phase of the October War, delivered a lecture entitled “The impact of the political decision on the military decision.”

Singer Samir al-Iskandarany, actress Soheir al-Morshidy and poet Iman al-Bakry talked about the role of art in keeping the heritage of the nation and embodying the sacrifices that made that great victory.

The seminar was attended by Sidqi Sobhy, the chief of staff, Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim, and leaders of the armed forces and the police.
