Clashes broke out in downtown Cairo between locals and pro-Morsi protesters in front of the Ministry of Religious Endowments on Tuesday afternoon.
Supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi were gathering in response to a call by the pro-Morsi National Alliance to Support Legitimacy to protest against "the coup and Zionism."
According to Ahram Online reporter Mai Shaheen, the police fired teargas to disperse the clashes. At least two pro-Morsi demonstrators have been arrested.
A CSF vehicle was deployed in front of the ministry but clashes calmed down by mid-afternoon.
According to Reuters, scuffles also broke out between pro-Morsi protesters and locals near the Ministry of the Interior, several streets away from the Ministry of Religious Endowments.
Supporters of the deposed president have been staging almost daily rallies demanding Morsi's reinstatement since his popularly-backed army ouster 3 July, in addition to maintaining two sit-ins, at Rabaa Al-Adawiya in the Nasr City district of Cairo and Al-Nahda Square in Giza.
The government has said that both sit-ins will be dispersed due to legal violations, but no action has yet been taken. AP reported that a plan to gradually disperse the sit-ins starting Monday morning had been postponed after it was leaked.
On Monday, Interim President Adly Mansour convened a high level security meeting to discuss the dispersal plans. No official statements were issued regarding the discussions.
