Egypt's nationwide fuel crisis has sparked violence in provinces, with one teenager suffering gunshot wounds amid unrest over increasingly scarce diesel supplies.
Eighteen-year-old Mohamed Zeyad suffered gunshot wounds to the arm during clashes in Minya.
Locals also blocked the highway in protest against authorities' failure to secure fuel quotas previously promised by the governor.
Police meanwhile seized over 100,000 litres of diesel en route to the local black market.
Security forces in Beni Suef also confiscated up to 1,400 litres of diesel and gasoline hidden by smugglers in jerry cans.
In Monufiya, a number of people were injured, including a policeman, as residents blocked the Cairo-Alexandria delta road.
Police arrested 6 before re-opening the highway.
Cars queueing outside gas stations in Damietta created extensive traffic jams.
A local Supply Ministry source meanwhile revealed that shortages had reached the 20-percent mark with authorities reserving fuel supplies to avoid bread shortages.
In Gharbiya, residents have now been unable to buy fuel for the second consecutive day. Gas stations have remained closed while taxi fares continue to rise.
Qalyubiya also witnessed traffic jams and roadblocks to protest against deteriorating fuel shortages

Re: Gunfights erupt over diesel shortages
The situation over fuel seemed to be getting better in Luxor, you could find at least one petrol station with some fuel although they might only have 2 pumps working, the last few days it seems to have gone backwards again, with huge queues at most petrol stations waiting for a tanker to arrive. 2 days ago none of the petrol stations had any fuel.

Same here on the West Bank. Haven't seen any big queues for ages but this morning the road from Gezeira up to the filling station was jammed up with microbuses queuing and trying to get into the filling station from both directions. Traffic was going the wrong way on the "dual carriageway" to get through. We haven't had any problem getting petrol, I think the shortage right now is diesel

Re: Gunfights erupt over diesel shortages
These Egyptians could learn a thing or two from the Welsh.
Many diesel cars around here, and they don't run on diesel..
http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/141 ... _sale.html . .
Minimum Order Quantity: 25 Metric Ton/Metric Tons
Supply Ability: 20000 Metric Ton/Metric Tons per Month
Rudolph Diesel actually intended that his invention would break the Oil companies monopoly...

There's a time for everyone, if they only learn
