The difference between Luxor and other parts of Egypt?
When I stayed in Alexandria for a week (holiday) I found no hassle at all, not one Egyptian tried to get my attention, no taxi's stopped to ask me if I needed a taxi, infact no one spoke with me at all. Even though I really enjoyed my stay, after a few days I missed some of the attention you get in Luxor, Egyptians saying "hello" etc
In Cairo (with an Egyptian friend) I booked into a 4 star hotel in Giza, I asked for 2 rooms, The guy behind the desk said why dont you share a twin room it will be a lot cheaper, this is not possible in Luxor.
Hurghada, seems strange to me, its more relaxed than Luxor, shops dont seem to hassle you, yet most of the guys that work in the shops are from Luxor!!! (it must be the heat of Luxor that causes them to hassle people) lol
What have you found different or liked/disliked in other parts of Egypt compared to Luxor?

i have had exactly the same experiences as you, Keefy.
Re dairo hotel:You may no want tosay, but it may depend on who was your friend; male or female, egyptian or westerner.
PS: How come my flag is still Australian, although I am in Luxor? I like to see the change.

I agree about Luxor and Hurghada but it's been so long since I have been anywhere else in Egypt it would be unfair to comment. May be able to report back from Aswan within the month where if Keefy's theory is correct there will be more hassle as it's hotter there.

More visitors means more business and a better chance of earning. And they can meet younger women, I'm told – there's more chance of having fun with people nearer their own age!DJKeefy wrote:Hurghada, seems strange to me, its more relaxed than Luxor, shops dont seem to hassle you, yet most of the guys that work in the shops are from Luxor!!! Assuit brill, very kind people and everyone said hello, Qena the same and am off to Edfu, not the temple but to look round the city on Wednesday so will let you know.
You must realise though that all these different places dont rely on tourism for their livlihood there is other work there, what else is there in Luxor.

Suez is an interesting place, all new cars, everybody in work, loads of factories, and all things boaty, they even have a 195O's looking Butlins Holiday Camp, very weird not many 'white folk around in-fact I was the only-one I saw.
But, the seafood is something to die for, not your Hurghada tourist rubbish, all restaurants are packed in-side and out and absolutely stunning and cheap sea-food.
I went there to get a cheap Jeep 5 years back.
It was totally flattened by the Israelis' all except for the turn of the Century French Quarter....
PS: Aswan hassle ? never seen it, it's more like a laid-back Brixton....
