Three Excellent Reads

Post by Winged Isis »

I've recently finished The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns (fiction) by Khaled Hosseni, and The Sewing Circles of Herat (non-fiction) by Christina Lamb.

No wonder the poor souls of in Afghanistan struggle to survive and to see any future, their history is so complicated and bloody and full of deceit and betrayals.

One can only be thankful that the lottery of birth placed one somewhere far less corrupt and far more stable, alhamdilulah.

Have you read " And the Mountains Echoed " by Khaled Hosseini? It's another brilliant read.

I'll be having a look at The Sewing Circles of Herat.

Such a great author!! I've read all 3 at least twice, and am probably getting ready to read them again. Maybe while I'm in Egypt in January :)

Apparently Sewing Circles isn't available on e- book so I'll pick up a copy when I'm in London in a week or so.

I'll look out for those thanks, newcastle and robbo.

I was disappointed in Sewing Circles as there was only a couple of token mentions of the actual circles, instead 99 per cent politics and history. She was too busy extolling her exciting adventures, often putting others' lives at risk, or receiving hospitality from those who had little food. I found her a bit selfish.
