Mr World 2014

Post by BENNU » Sun Jun 22, 2014 10:47 pm

:skip: Fancy a Danish? The organisers of Mr World do apparently.

http://metro.co.uk/2014/06/16/important ... 4-4763145/

While everyone was distracted watching the England football team huffing and puffing against the Italians, another far more thrilling contest was taking place right under our noses.

The final of Mister World 2014 was being held this weekend at the uber-glamorous Riviera Centre in Torbay, Devon.

And we can reveal Mr Denmark’s Nicklas Pedersen won the coveted title after a hotly contested final which saw 46 guys compete over a series of weird and wonderful challenges...

The idea that it is okay to judge men on the basis of their appearance and that there is one objective beauty that men can be measured against, influences the way that all of us feel about ourselves as men.
Beauty pageants treat men as if we were objects that can be compared and judged.
This dehumanises men and leads to the idea that it is acceptable to view men as a sum of body parts, not real people.
The first part of any oppression is to dehumanise the group that is oppressed. The more it becomes acceptable to view men as a sum of body parts, the easier it becomes to disrespect, to mistreat and even act out violence towards men as a group....

<giggle> I could hear all those comments in my head when I read the article and looked at the photo's. (Maybe I was getting close to my masculine side.) I did wonder who would be the first to post them. :)

On careful consideration I've come to the conclusion that there really is no contest. I will happily settle for the Danish pastries. :)

 Now you've got me caught up in all sorts of 'lost in translation' stuff. Would it be considered sexual harassment if I asked for a Bacon Bap or a Danish Bun?

Not for me, a bit squeaky clean and short. I prefer tall and rugged.

Hugh Jackson will do. ;)

I always fancied entering one of these beauty pageants for men. I would show the gawking public what a real man looks like. Beer belly, glasses, a long gone hair line, fallen muscles, more commonly known as bingo wings and the inability to dress in complimentary colours. :up Be honest, which would you prefer given the choice.

Well, I fancied my DH when he was young and built like a prop forward and I love him even more now that time, endless coffee/tea with sugar, 3 packs of ciggies a day and gravity have taken their toll.

However since his recent health scare, who knows he may reverse "polarity". :up
