Culling Dogs..

Post by Who2 »

Over on Luxor residents are posts about the recent dog culling.
Seems a WB lady had her pet Great Dane poisoned although living on private land.

Since arriving in Luxor over 20 years ago dogs have been a 'pet subject.
Egyptians were once terrified of dogs, over the years everyone has 1 2 even 3.

When living in a high rise on Mokattam, I helplessly observed a small pack of wild dogs,
cleverly surround a 10 year old, I started chucking things at the pack, ashtrays ect.

The nipper spotted them and ran for his life literally, and escaped but some children don't.
Egyptian wild dogs are everywhere the pack enlarges and in a pack they gain boldness.

Nick was attacked by three dogs up near the Ramesseum Rest biting him badly these dogs were put down,
but only when the luxor Marathon was due to take place.

Wild dogs are a problem all over the World except one does not see packs in the UK.
Why do these 'ex-pats go to foreign countries and try to impress their colonialist naive views.

Dogs not looked after properly and at risk of being poisoned, by locals, army, police.
You have been warned and perhaps, one has neighbours that dislike dogs, you, yourlifestyle,
your wealth, your attitude..'who knows ?

That's probably why the lady's Great Dane was poisoned.
I obviously didn't receive any good vibes after I pointed this out to her.
Dogs and humans can be dangerous...be warned! ...... 8)

Ps: Part of a post from an ex-pat:

Why are the men on this thread being such jerks? Respect a person's grief and that even in that, she's kind and considerate enough to warn others, for God's sake.
There are two ways dogs and cats get poisoned here - mass culling by the government of free roaming street dogs whenever there is an 'event' that they want the place 'clean' for, or by locals for whatever reason: scared, annoyed at barking, or running around.

This from the original poster:
This isn’t the government. This is local people. We have seen it time and time again. Little Bella was found dead in front of our private gates. The government don’t come round the back of nobi onto private land to lay down poison also.

'Like I said the ladies village has a problem QED, finally the penny-drops..

We lost a number of dogs on the farm by us over the years. Sometimes thought to be snake or scorpions but also poison.
You are right though in that some dogs cause big problems in their area like barking loudly outside neighbours homes all night. I do not blame the dogs but the owners who show no consideration for others around them. Yes, I have experienced that! The worst is when a feral bitch does the tour round looking for mates, always at night.

It’s a real problem in Egypt and I can see both sides of the argument. Poisoning is a cruel and sometimes indiscriminate solution...and it’s only temporary. But what else?

Although I’m an animal lover, I recognise both the nuisance, and danger, that packs of feral dogs represent.

We have the same problem in Hurghada despite the actions of organisations like “Blue Moon” who capture and neuter strays. Like so many of Egypt’s problems, it’s got to the stage where there’s no real solution....only periodic culls with their consequent problems.

I agree poisoning is not good.
