Banks

Post by carrie »

A friend has just rung me, she had to go to the bank yesterday. All the employees were wearing masks and only allowing three people in the bank at one time.
Meanwhile outside those waiting to go in were sitting on the pavement, chatting away. None of them wearing gloves or masks, shaking hands and kissing their passing friends and relatives.
If people here wont take notice of advise that the Gov issues then what chance have they to contain the spread?
Not only Egyptian people either, the ex pats are no better.

A personal view......

Evidence from multiple sources indicates that the Egyptians are pretty hopeless at following scientific and government advice about social distancing etc.

I don’t think this is going to change even in the face of rising infections and deaths.

Although I doubt this figures in Egyptian attitudes to COVID -19, there are some experts who believe this virus will be no worse, in its ultimate effects, than seasonal flu and that the worldwide”lockdown” may turn out to have been an overreaction.

Time will tell.....when the overall mortality statistics can be analysed.

I think it’s important to remember that, whether you live in lockdown UK or laissez faire Egypt, providing you maintain sensible personal hygiene, the chances of contracting COVID-19, let alone being seriously ill as a consequence, are incredibly small.

The saturation focus of all the Media, and the realities of day-to-day restrictions, might make it feel otherwise but I expect this will be an episode largely forgotten in a year or so.

Not, of course, by those who have lost loved ones.

We have an average of 92% of stupid, thicko's here as well. But you have about 99% of thicko's there.
So, all in all I'm happy to stay here with less thicko's, mind you a thicko in anybody's book is still a thicko.

I'm off to ring my bell for the last time to pray for the NHS..

Had to nip out today for paint, my local shop. I donned my face mask and expected to be the only one wearing one. But no, every bus that passed, all passengers had one, plus the drivers. Nine out of every ten persons walking on the street had them on, including the shop keepers, with the exception of my paint man  . I had bought a large tub of emulsion, quite heavy to carry back to my home, so crossed the road to take a bus, seven drivers ignored me, even though I had a mask on. Eventually an old guy stopped, but I think this was because he had no passengers on. Absolute load of barstewards. :x

Bought some paint on my last trip over the river but think I got the wrong type. It's OK but matt emulsion rather than the one with a slight sheen, what should I have asked for Dusak?

He won't know that after doing a 'through-the -keyhole of his gaff, you need to ask an ex 'tosher...
You need to ask for Satin or Silk emulsions, ther'e 'mid-sheen' finishes, which means they look like a slightly polished surface and reflect a bit of light.
Silk is a finish associated with walls and satin for woodwork.... 8)

They refer to it as ''shiny'' carrie.
