Coronavirus

Post by Major Thom »

Just been informed that there has been a person with Coronavirus in a Luxor Hospital. Does anyone know of this, has the press fallen silent? If correct would it not be best to inform people so they can protect themselves.

It would be helpful if you could state your source of information.
Is this a first hand report or just hearsay?

I have a friend who is a Doctor in Cairo Hepzi, we were talking on messenger earlier and talking about how fast Coronavirus was spreading and saying lets hope Countries that entertain visitors are taking steps to deal with it. During the conversation he told me. So really straight from the horses mouth. I wondered if this is the reason that Egypt has stopped flights from China, and at the same time has not said anthing to prevent panic. Here in Cyprus there have been loads of measures taken because its not long now before Asian investors and property developers start coming, along with the many Asian people that own property here. I suppose it can be worrying to a lot of people, but Countries are right in taking preventative measures. I personally think that Egypt banning flights from China is a bold move and other Countries should think about it to, at least it will prevent the spread no matter how drastic it may sound. I have also heard today that the UK are flying back citizens from China and putting them into 14 day isolation, so it sounds like the UK are taking steps. Not sre though about Chinese people returning to the UK from New Year celebrations and if they have to go through rigorous tests before allowed to mingle.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I don't think that Egypt is the only country banning flights from China.
British Airways - whilst not a country but an individual airline - has I believe stopped all flights to China. I think worldwide that is the case for many airlines even if the governments haven't banned the flights.

At the moment most European carriers have stopped flying to mainland China until further notice. I guess many others will follow suit in due course. The flight from Wuhan to Brize lands tomorrow morning with the evacuees being transferred to The Wirral for 2 weeks.

Having just returned to the land of my fathers late last night, having spent a wonderful 48hrs
in El Gouna we inspected everyone on the plane.
Anybody coughed 'kerchunk mind you they did throw a blind drunk Polish guy off the plane.
Loads of people wearing masks though, and did bump into a few Chinese on last week's shopping trip.

Bet there are some great conspiracy theories doing the rounds at the moment.... 8)
Ps: Bit dismal here in clerk's well, and people tell me today we 'brexit,
So bought some French wine & cheeses to celebrate.

It will all fade away eventually, like SARS and Bird Flu.

though me and my mate got a week off from work due to Bird Flu when the media hype topped out...
We knew all the symptoms to report to HR.. ;-)

My mate has since buggered off to Ireland, so I may pay him a visit for a week whilst on the sick from Corona virus...

Lets face it, The Chinese are not exactly notorious for exporting anything that lasts.
My Son had a chinese motorbike that I was forever having to fix it as things fell off, and if you ever eat a Chinese take away, well bugger me, you are hungry again 2 hours later...

So, check your facts and realise that well over 150,000 people die each day here on mother Earth, which should put some perspective on the situation.. The Birth rate is over double the death rate..

I am a little surprised that we have no reason why or how this virus started, anyone who visits either Shangai or Beijing will really only visit the modern or classic sites of these great cities, a few visit Xian but again to visit classic ancient sites, but no one ever really visits the ordinary street markets, and I do mean live animals of various description, that are slaughtered on site. Remember Chinese people like their food fresh.

Having visited China a number of times now, I know Wuhan reasonably well, once you really move into the interior of China you easily come across poverty, yes most main cities have excellent airports and rail stations, but the mental attitude of the average poor Chinese people is that they will only buy food that is alive in the now almost 'back-street' markets, being that they do not trust the average modern day supermarkets. I am sure some will say this is so in many parts of the world,.........but, in the likes of Wuhan, duck, chicken, fish and other such animals are slaughtered on the spot with the same knife and block,.......hygiene is a joke.

Up until around 2005 tourist were very carefully kept in check, you could only buy from the official government shops, at what was a very high price, you were not allowed to go off the beaten track. In preparation for their Olympics suddenly everything became possible, and that is when the real problem started, and today the government of China will feel the cost to its economy for its failings.

It was reported in Al Arham, that over 300 people were evacuated from the centre if the outbreak in China to Egypt within the past 3 days. It will be interesing to know what risk they pose as they return to their homes around Egypt. It may be they are just handed over to the security forces to deal with if they are carrying Coronavirus. Has anyone head of isolation centres being set up? Most people know they have found it can be carried by people that show no or little reaction to the virus but, are more than capable of passing it on, the man in the UK (Hove) is an example

If you read the article properly MT- fat chance- you will note that the Wuhan evacuees were :

a) tested for the virus

b) quarantined

None were allowed to return to their homes, and won’t be until it is clear that they are not infected, nor infectious.

If I were you, I’d be more concerned with the more relaxed attitude Cyprus appear to be taking.

If this Corona virus is still ongoing when I get back from Hammermet, then I will have a week off shortly afterwards.
God knows I am going to need it, since we are taking my daughter and her 3 kids as well..

Usually these things do effect the countries economy, so it makes you wonder just how bad it really is, and the motive behind it all

Yanks banned the Chinese phones Hauwaii as they said they had spying capabilities. They wanted us Brits to do the same.

Absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the particular phone was far superior to the newly released i-Phone 11 and was less than a 3rd of the price.

Money make the world go round, in more ways than one...

Now, where is that Zombie apocalyp......... ? Oh....

I'm still asking around here in the UK that if you'd had flu jab would that help prevent you catching the virus. So far no one has given me an answer either way, not even Dr Google.

Crewmeal, I'm no expert but I would imagine that the standard flu vaccine given this year would provide lirrle ir no protection against this strain of corona virus.
As far as I understand it, the flu shot is prepared each year, with tweaks to the recipe, based on predicted/anticipated/existing strains of flu happening worldwide. This particular coronovirus strain seems to have taken everyone by surprise, if not by its seriousness if infected by it but by the speed and ease that it has spread.

Agreed..and the efforts going into developing a specific vaccine indicate the ineffectiveness of the current seasonal flu vaccine against Coronavirus.

That’s the problem with viruses...they mutate.

To get things in perspective....from the patchy evidence available this new strain is only spreading slightly quicker than seasonal flu . The transmission factor is still above the critical RO 1 - which indicates a potential pandemic . Seasonal flu kills several thousands in the UK each year.

Hepzibah, that’s my understanding too. I have a flu jab every year as I’m extremely vulnerable to chest infections etc, but it has to be renewed each autumn as the virus strains change. For the past 2 years the vaccine has been in very, very short supply in Turkey, as it’s imported (I believe from Italy?) and imports requiring hard currency are being limited by the government. There have been no published reports of cases of coronavirus in Turkey yet.

The fear level here is rising to super levels.
Programmes on fear, Iv'e arrived home to die, should've stayed in Luxor.
Told Sim today she has to stand in the yard for an hour after her getting off the tube.
Shades of 1918, 50 million dead worldwide, ruddy Spanish.
Now it's the Chinese and there's a lot of them about.

Popped into my pharmacy today Raj (one of the faithful) the boss, was flogging face masks at £5 quid each.
By the time I'm ready to return, Gatwick will be shut, channel tunnel closed and the Isle of Wight
a quarantine secure unit, the Army take control and Boris bugger's off back to Mustique.... 8)

Ps: Politically today:
"It does not mean that the pound here in Britain, in your pocket or purse or in your bank, has been devalued"
They have taken over the Treasury and it's all down to that Benedict Cumberbunch...
