I am only copying the information sent to me by the Consular office. When we had the meeting we were asked if we wanted to join this group (whatsapp) I did and also provided my email address. Because some of the users on this forum aren't members I decided to post what information I received.
So far the information seems somewhat confused and contradictory.
Newcastle mentioned the utility bills. The legal marriage. Many people here marry Egyptians go to the court and have it registered receive their papers and are able to travel freely with their husbands and stay in flats and hotels together. That seems to be legal enough for most. I suppose the point is that you cant apply for residency if you just have one of those marriages.

Exactly correct or get a visa for more than 6 months. A marriage in Ministry of Justice allows you to have a 5 year visa, residency and other rights that you have mentioned.

Not that any of it affects me...

That all sounds to be the same as it has been for as long as I can remember.
Me too!

Carrie is - I assume- only relaying info she has picked up from some Embassy site.
Just in case there is any misunderstanding - my comment was in no way a criticism, nor was I shooting the messenger.

I actually found Carrie's post refreshing because it was clear to read and understand, presenting the facts as known.

Thanks Hepzibah I didn't take your comments as criticism, I am purely reporting the information given to me by the Embassy.
