A Day in The Life of the Village

Post by hatusu »

It was my birthday and Id left it till the last minute to order my cake. As the weather was still very hot I didn’t walk up to my usual baker – he was 100 yds further to walk than the one in the main street of the village so I decided to be lazy.
I knew exactly what I wanted but to make doubly sure I made a drawing of what I wanted, and the size I wanted. Regarding the size I took a small tape measure with me and showed the assistants (2 of them) approx the size I wanted (about 20 cm square). I spoke in both English and Arabic. He asked me if I wanted it chocolate covered I said No, all white , and repeated in Arabic “Cull Abyad”. I handed over the small drawing Id made – I wanted something very simple with just Happy Birthday, my name , and 2 butterflies (Arabic “Farasha”) on the all white background. He kept the drawing and I paid in advance. What could possibly go wrong.?
What I actually got was a cake approx. 3 times the size of what Id requested, covered in chocolate, what wasn’t covered in chocolate was vivid red, orange and green coloured fruit, no butterflies, and a very strange spelling of my name.
But it was delicious!

One of the very few times an Egyptian mistake is acceptable. If you had asked for the one you did receive, you would of got the one you ordered in the first place. Hope you had a good birthday. Now for the diet. :eat

Happy Birthday :hb2:

Perhaps next time go the extra distance in the evening!

Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
