Mobiles

Post by Major Thom » Wed Jul 11, 2018 10:25 am

I have been trying to get in touch with an Egyptian friend of mine and his phone seems dead, is anyone having trouble with mobiles and connections please? He is using Etisilat provider. Just wondered if there had been problems lately. I have not tried for 5 days but seems strange.

There could be many reasons for this.
I have often found that calls have not been taken because the recipient has been at a funeral, and as we all know, this can take a number of days.

Just applying a bit of Hepzibah logic here... as Major Thom has not tried the particular number for 5days, wouldn't it be a good idea to try it anyway before wondering about any connection problems. If there had been a 'down time' with the provider, or any other problem, or a reason the friend had their phone off, surely that could have been rectified in the meantime.

It could be that five days ago, his battery died during a power cut.

Now for something other concerning mobiles. Over the last two days I have had a number ring me, not one I recognize, usually the typical Egyptian miscall so you ring them back. I don't usually bother ringing them back, but I was bored and fancied a chat with a total stranger if that's what it turned out to be. Anyway, the three times I've rang this number back I get the message that the number is incorrect, so try again. So if the number is incorrect, how did they connect to my number as presumably the number does not exist?

Never ever answer numbers, no-name no answer! unless of course your really daft and want not to buy something,
and talk crap, sometimes if ringing I answer it and just walk away, it's their money.
Oh! that goes for the UK as well, personally my phone is somewhere around but not in my life's cycle.
If I need to speak to someone I'll call them or call them back. ffs.... 8)

As expected. A perfectly reasonable and logical explanation.

Saved us all from a lengthy whinge about the state of Egypt's communication systems.

This has just happened to an English guy living here, had a massive stroke so can no longer return, so he left the apartment to ACE, but the Egyptian twot living above him that sold him the flat, never included right of way into the block via the very narrow front garden, so ACE lost it. Of course, for :mo :mo :mo :mo :mo :mo :mo :mo :mo :mo he would sign access over. Hope he dies a slow lingering death.

Not whinging as you call it at all Hepzi, the guy had an accident a little while ago on his motorbike and became handicapped with low vision and other after effects. We always contact him and his wife regularly to keep up with his health situation, and help in anyway we can. They have been friends with us since 2010, and were the first local people we met when we moved to Luxor. I was them that gave us the names of Mustafa and Mona. Any local help we needed he was there and would not accept anything in return. When I was ill once he and his wife would bring food around for my wife and help with any errands we needed, again neither him or his wife would accept anything in return. So nothing to do with the mobile phone systems in Egypt, just worried about a loyal and good friend.

You beat me to it Horus. I remember not to long ago on one of MT's reminiscent monologues that he quite clearly stated that NO Egyptian did anything for nothing. but perhaps Mona was not included in that moan.

I suppose Mustafa and Mona are better than some of the names that come to mind for some people.

For instance Donald Trump - Donald J Buttbubble or Fuller Col. Ostermybag

Its cost 10 billion pounds alone for the UK to entertain this trapclap, and a further couple of quid for the PM's Primark dress. What for, well nothing at all. When the wind direction changes so will he.

Incidentally has anyone seen the video of a drunken Claude Junker being aided to walk? What a bag of S--te our World Leaders are. Weak, Pathetic and living off mainly immoral earnings.
