The latest cricket match

Post by Dusak »

Three years ago I had a cricket in my home. Its constant chirping drove me crazy over a three day period. I finally found its cubbyhole and gassed it with cockroach killer. Two days ago I had another chirping invader, this time I knew it was in the kitchen/reception room area, so the hunt began to end its incessant 24/7 revival of ''chirpy chirpy cheep cheep.'' I emptied all the kitchen cupboards, dragged the fridge freezer out, hunted the elusive pray in the large washing and laundry room. I cursed Alfie for not adding crickets to his kill list of spiders and cockroaches. As the front bedroom is off the kitchen and reception rooms, I hunted in there. No sign of the little barsteward. Last night we had a power cut, so I put the gas kettle on to make a brew. While waiting for it to boil I suddenly realized that the silence was deafening, no chirping. I sought out Alfie, patting him on the head as a reward for his capturing the jumper as I had noted that he had spent a lot of time glaring under the cooker, an item I wasn't willing to pull out as its a double one. Brew made I turned on the lap top to watch a program using its battery power, as is usual as soon as it booted up, the power came back on just as I was about to be washed through the door on a wave of sweat. The ceiling fan came back on in the reception, as the cricket did once it had reached its set speed. WD40 killed the cricket. The moral of this story is ''think before you act, don't act before you think.''

I had a similar 'cricket' incident with a dying smoke detector that had be replaced with a new one, the old stored in the garage. It would ressurect every now and then for a few years!

I did an even better one last night, sat there watching a very good film for a change, film ended, I started my usual 'effing and blinding while attempting to change channels with the remote which was unresponsive. Took a bit to realize I was using the AC remote.
