Lamb

Post by carrie »

Has anyone any idea where a friend and I can go for a really nice lamb meal? Been to the restaurant on the Ramla, OK but nothing special, been to the place opposite the train station, not good and the two places on Manchia not very clean, we are going to try Sofra today but any where else would be good to try on another occasion.
Another thing must be ground floor or first because my friend isn't very good with stairs.

I'm pretty sure that I had a great lamb shank in one of the Little Britain restaurants, last time I was in Luxor. Can't remember the name, a British lady and her Egyptian husband run it, on the other side of the street from Snobs. The Lantern?

Its very rare that the Lantern put on lamb meals, but you could pre order it. The problem here is that the local lamb they use is a bit naff, unless they produce a dish that requires at least four hours slow cook. Better off buying lamb from Arkwright's, get a couple of bottles of wine in and cook your own. A full rack of lamb chops from there produces and excellent meal with whatever you wish to go with it.

Carrie had a little lamb,
Its flesh was young and tender,
But when Who2 found out,
He nicked it for a bender.

Carrie, take a walk up to Wolf restaurant one day and talk to the owner, Nubi.
He goes far and wide to find good lamb. Fran says he does a very tasty Moroccan lamb but it will need to be on pre-order so he can source good lamb.
He can serve food on the ground floor to make things easier for you.

Yes, Nubi is very accommodating. Just don't go for a quick meal; plan a leisurely stay. Make sure you are covered in "Off" or similar repellent for the mozzies if you attract them like I do. The toilets are spotless. It's that rarity, a lovely quiet location. He lived 25 years in the USA and speaks excellent English.

I have been a few times and the food was excellent but the last time the meal was awful. I understand that the Chef who was there has left and that may be the reason. He is a nice man who owns it and it's only five minutes from where I live wait till it warms up again in the evening and I might be tempted to return.
