Mobile Hospital

Post by carrie »

A mobile hospital has arrived on the west bank of Luxor, on the Ramla, it will be here for the next 3 days. I was invited to look round today and inspect the facilities, they have a small operating theatre for day surgery. Recovery beds, toilets, all spotless. When I went they were doing a tonsillectomy and plans to do a number of cataract operations. Children are being given the once over, ears, eyes, etc. and if anything is found being referred to the appropriate specialist. All medication is free. If you know any Egyptian families who need to see the doctor please tell them about this. All the doctors are from Cairo and are very professional. To learn more souadkafaflhospital.com
Today there were hundreds of people there so if anyone is attending then they must be prepared for a long wait. Well worth it though. And a thank you from me to the dedicated team they have working there.

Ive just been down to have a look at the temporary hospital. I was amazed – Id been told about it but wouldn’t have believed what it was actually like without seeing it myself. As Carrie says, it is a project of the Kafafi University Hospital and is here for several days. It is totally free for both Egyptians and foreigners. One of the tents was dispensing free medications and there seemed to be a tent for every different specialist subject – cardiology, dermatology , gynaecology, haemotology and every other ology you can think of, paediatrics – I just cant remember them all but I remember being told they had a specialist in open heart surgery there as well I was told that a large trailer at the bottom of the area was an operating theatre.

Thanks for this information. I've been able to pass it on to friends in Luxor who's little girl is regularly ill and no one seems to be able to help.

Were you able to ascertain the objective of their visit to Luxor?

I gather it's part of the Misr University for Science and Technology and offers free care for those who can't afford to pay...i.e. half the country!

Will this be a regular visit?

may just be me, but I don't think that us foreigners should recieve any form of free treatment, too many locals that have little or no money need it more.

That's why I didn't post that foreigners could attend Dusak, in my opinion they have no right to get free treatment.
The mobile hospital has visited various town in Egypt places where the Doctors think there is greatest need (says a lot about Luxor). The whole thing has been organized by MUST (Misr University for Science and Technology) based in 6th October City in Cairo. I don't know if they will be coming again the medicines alone that they have brought to Luxor cost 865,000 le. All we can do is wish them well and maybe make a donation to the cause.
Vodafone is a big donor to the cause too.

Am I right in thinking that something similar used to happen pre-2011? I have a vague memory of this happening, but it may be that I'm thinking of somewhere else.

I totally agree with you Carrie but that being said , we have some of the medical personnel staying at the hotel. They themselves stressed particularly that it was for EVERYONE, not just Egyptians, and the person who showed me round the area, again stressed while she was showing me round, that it was for foreigners as well - all welcome.
Perhaps it has something to do with the funding - one of the conditions?

Sounds to be a good reason to close Luxor International now in favour of the Mobile Hospital.
