West Bank Coffee Shop

Post by HEPZIBAH » Tue Dec 27, 2016 9:08 pm

Suggestions needed please, for somewhere decent (but not silly prices) to have a morning coffee, within close walking distance of the West Bank Ferry.

Well as my coffee machine is at the menders I would say the nearest decent coffee is Starbucks in Cairo or Costa Coffee in Hurghada and Pizza Roma next to me!

All the rest are pants or taste like they have been filtered through a pair!

Good Luck.

Sunflower Restaurant has an espresso machine.

It is on your left when you get off the ferry, next to Mesala Hotel.

Too bad you chose to go to Luxor when I am not there, I could have made you a nice cup of coffee.

 Bombay, you will see that I asked for 'somewhere decent' as in a place. I gave up looking for a decent coffee in Luxor many, many years ago, although it is fair to say that Cafe Latte used to serve an acceptable cup, as do Aboudi's these days. Preferring my coffee black, I do find it harder to find a decent coffee though. As for Starbucks, that is a place I do my very best to avoid as I generally find the service and coffee not to my liking.

I was in Piza Roma last week (how can I come to Luxor and not eat there at least once) but didn't have a coffee. I will make sure I have one next time I am there although alas it will not be during this visit alas. I had it in mind to visit eat at you place tonight. If I do I will remember not to order coffee!

Thanks for this suggestion. As I normally only ever get off the ferry and then walk up to the service cars I never know what is in the general locality.

It seems we are destined never to meet. We are never in the same country at the same time. Maybe one day we will be able to drink good coffee together. However, my search at the moment is so that I can meet a longstanding Egyptian friend, somewhere that neither of us have to travel too far. As they are not someone who frequents cafes and restaurants they have insisted that I choose our meeting place, even though I am their guest. This I am having to think of location and cost (I do not want them to be embarrased by the bill).

Little Gezira does a decent Nescafe, up from the ferry and down a little lane that used to have Africa on the corner. Nice garden to sit in or the roof has lovely views.
There's a shop that sells brightly coloured rugs and cushion covers on the corner as you turn down the lane.

Its a pity that Upper Egypt seems to be a place that you can not find a decent cup of what must be the most popular beverage on the planet. It aint exactly rocket science. Doesn't bother me though as I probably have around a couple of dozen cups a year.

Thank you for your helpful suggestions. At the last minute I had to change my plans and didn't make it to the West Bank to search for the elusive decent place with good coffee. :ct

My best mate in work since they purchased this 18 months ago...

Fill it up with water and half a bag of beans.
Choice of 3 strengths, both large and espresso, it steams, it froths, it is wonderful.... :a4:

I like to make an Americano and top the mug off with a couple of cheeky espresso's :ct

.
I can stay awake in work for up to 6 out of the required 8 hours...... :up
