Egyptair - LXR to LHR 7 Sept
Looks like Egyptair have again cancelled the direct flight to LHR from LXR as no direct flight is available for Monday 7 September. An incoming fllight is available on that date and a direct flight is, at the moment available from LXR to LHR on Monday 14 Sept

Now that the last CEO has been sacked, perhaps they should try larger planes and lower their prices, like a lot of successful airlines!...

So if there is an inbound flight that day what happens to the aircraft when it gets to Heathrow? Operates direct to Cairo instead of going via Luxor? What happens to the Luxor passengers (If there are any) go via Cairo and catch the next plane down I guess.

Re: Egyptair - LXR to LHR 7 Sept
I might be wrong here Crewmeal, but Egyptair might be going back to what it did in the old days where the flight starts off in Luxor, calls in to pick up the Cairo lot, then direct to London, then those poor sods who hope to get from London to Luxor, get pushed off at Cairo.crewmeal wrote:So if there is an inbound flight that day what happens to the aircraft when it gets to Heathrow? At least back then you could easily pick up the late internal flight down to Luxor, which these days no longer operates.
Now be kind here Bombay if I'm wrong.

As its a smaller plane, they may well fly it up to Manchester for the cairo flight. That's a crappy little plane too. I guess the Monday people will be put on the Cairo flight and then shuttled to Luxor, as they have done to us in the past

Lets hope clients (if there are any) don't miss their boat. Most will miss the Tuesday morning visit to the Valleys if they shuttle down from Cairo.

Maybe the plane is already full for 7th Sept(only 3 days away). They will not offer it if it is already full.

Many passengers choose this routing because it's up to 1000LE cheaper than going direct to Cairo. For those not sure it goes:
CAI - LXR - LHR then the reverse from LHR. Passengers clear security and passport control at LXR during the 1 hour it's on the ground on the way to LHR.
Presumably it won't call at LXR if the loads are really low.

There are still late connections to Luxor. I was on one last visit at about 11.35pm from Cairo. I would think if there was a large number of tourists being diverted they would be put on a late connection

Re: Egyptair - LXR to LHR 7 Sept
It could just be full. With only 160 seats and at the beginning of a new term it is entirely possible.Chris wrote:Looks like Egyptair have again cancelled the direct flight to LHR from LXR as no direct flight is available for Monday 7 September. But I just checked at EgyptAir. The direct flight is available at least with return on 14th Sept. Price for round trip is £401.26.
But when I try to book as a one-way then it is not available.
I would phone the EgyptAir office if you want a one-way ticket.

Re: Egyptair - LXR to LHR 7 Sept
I checked again today. There is NO direct flight to LHR from LXR on 7 September! There has been a schedule change and passengers will have to travel to Cairo on the 06:30 flight and transfer to the 09:40 from Cairo to LHR

Re: Egyptair - LXR to LHR 7 Sept
It won't fly if loads are low its primarily the LXR-LHR-LXR flight which operates an internal flight before and after to position the aircraft it has to fly for an hour in the wrong direction to call at Luxor, if the LXR-LHR flight is cancelled so are the 2 internal flights. I remember the day you could fly Luxor from/to Cairo on the 747 that used to operate the London flights from Luxor in the good old days!!crewmeal wrote:Many passengers choose this routing because it's up to 1000LE cheaper than going direct to Cairo. The return flight London to Luxor is on sale and operating on the 7th so the outbound from Luxor will be operating it may be full and not showing if there's no tickets to sell.

Re: Egyptair - LXR to LHR 7 Sept
The out bound flight from LXR to LHR on 7 September is definitely not taking off. This has been confirmed three times to me by the Cairo call centre which each Agent has told me that the flight has been rescheduled and now be two separate flights. LXR to CAI and then CAI to LHR. Five people I have spoken to,who are supposed to be on the direct flight, have received no notification from Egyptair for the flight. I wonder how many will be turning up at LXR airport expecting to catch the 10am direct flight to LHR only to find it cancelled and they have missed the 6.30am flight to CAI for the connecting flight to LHR?

They do not always send an e-mailChris wrote:Five people I have spoken to,who are supposed to be on the direct flight, have received no notification from Egyptair for the flight.

I once had a phone call from a very friendly gentleman, telling me that my flight all the way from Luxor to Cairo was delayed one or two hours, so I could take it easy. More than once have I had the domestic connection for my Copenhagen flight cancelled, meaning that I was supposed to leave earlier or one or two days later without the usual e-mail notification. When I have checked online, they have been waiting for me to confirm. :xx2

Years ago, when ever I booked a flight to London from Egyptair in Luxor, you was always told to contact the office 24hrs before my flight date, that's when phones were in short supply, now I imagine it's either phone call, or on line.
I recently learnt that there are no longer 'stand-by' available on any airline.

Well, I for one, would certainly be most grateful Wills if you would please give us a report here. Perhaps unlike you, I may not be as young as you, and with a cost of £500 round trip with Egyptair in November, I certainly would want a direct flight, or I can certainly find a much cheaper flight through an Italian airline, or even Turkish airlines who are both almost £200 cheaper.Wills wrote:I am due to fly out tomorrow Monday Heathrow to Luxor and have had no notification of any changes.
Myself, I have the money to pay, but when a company take the p*ss, then that's a different matter. I hope all goes well for you, many thanks in anticipation of your findings.
