Egypt looking to boostcutural tourism- longer opening hours

Post by Chris » Tue Jul 28, 2015 6:28 pm

Cultural highlights in the cities of Aswan and Luxor have had their opening hours extended after the Egyptian ministry of tourism completed a lighting project.

Hatshepsut Temple, Egypt

The scheme is designed to boost cultural tourism to sites in the Valley of the Kings and Queens.

The ministry of antiquities has agreed to open areas such as, Hatshepsut Temple, the Ramesseum and Luxor Temple, from 6am to 11pm during the summer season and from 6am to 9pm during winter.

Although it won't do that much for tourist numbers given the other issues it's a nice move.

I'll certainly be taking advantage of it and will no longer have to toss a coin between the pool and temples/tombs.

A real boon in the summer.

We'll be it from me to say that the sites on the WB have for many years been illuminated at night in a most magnificent style. I have often taken a block of. Cheese and a bottle of wine up to Hatshepsut's Temple, and sat there around 10 p.m, when, I assure you all, there were no tourists, and I enjoyed every moment,........................those were the days.

Mohammed abd el-Rassoul will be running all the way to the bank. An extra few hours of opening of the Ramesseum. Maybe an extra 2 or 3 visitors a day!

One can hardly see flocks of tourists or Egyptians crossing to the West Bank at night time....

And suddenly after it is implemented the governor suddenly says the roads the tourists will travel on need to be better lit for safety reasons. Not a bad thing at all, but terrible that Egyptian lives did not prompt such actions prior to this, because Egyptians have been using and dying on the same roads for a long time.

It would help if Egyptians drove with their lights on at night.

An update.

Although it was intended to open VoK at night this has been shelved owing to "security issues".

Sad....but probably wise.

Strange.

Bernie Adams posted elsewhere (2 days ago) that the valley is not open and this was confirmed by someone else who'd spoken to the police (Shorta). Bernie has just restated this.
