I have just been looking for flights, ferries etc to travel to the Med. Countries. Its a minefield with hardly anything on offer, no ferries, if you want a flight to a certain place you either have to fly to Europe and back to your destination, or fly and ferry from Europe. What a nightmare! But most of all what an expense you have if you want to travel anywhere. Two people flying to Cairo in June on a return flight 2650le the cheapest seats. Then you have to find another flight to Europe and then another back to Mallorca. That's disgusting really, things have not gone up that degree. There's no wonder Egyptian people do not travel very often and are able to expand their world wide experiences. The only ones that do travel are those on Jolly's.

It's a bit like trying to fly to Luxor really!

Isn't life one long summer when you are retired?

Its probably cheaper to fly Luxor to Heathrow, then pick up a sleazyjet to Mallorca or where ever it is in Europe you fancy. Probably same travelling time too when you look at most connection times in Cairo. Have you not looked at the flights in and out of Hurghada? Hurghada to Zurich with easyjet is usually quite cheap, then Zurich to lots of European cities, still with easyjet.

There must be some countries that are flying direct into Luxor. Why not check out those airlines and then see where you can get to from their home destination airport.

Use Istanbul as the hub, many flights from Cairo, also cheap flights from Hurghada with Pegasus. Pegasus fly on to many European destinations including Stanstead. As with all non-charter flights, booking as early as possible results in the cheapest prices.

Egypt Air flights to Istanbul are ALWAYS full, and there are at least 3 flights daily throughout the year. The nationality of the majority of passengers? Egyptian.

:-) There should be cheap charter flights for Egyptians to Mallorca... and E-visa.

The only person I have ever known to vacation in Mallorca (his family had a house there) was the son of someone who was once the energy minister of an Arab country.

I guess all these Med. Countries just don't have the infrastructure either ............... and I thought it was just Luxor!

He is living in California these days, also working in the energy industry like his father, specializing in energy efficiency. And by the way, round trip tickets to California are insanely cheap for June this year. Maybe MT should try that instead.

So are flights to Australia, a flight from the UK to Luxor, when and if you can get one around 400GBP return. Flights from Egypt to Australia 650GBP each. Something does not make sense does it. How come a flight lasting 4 hours is only 250GBP cheaper than a 23 hour flight.

Been to many places in USA GD, but a long time ago. Got 10 internal flights from Pan Am for 100GBP. Jet lag though severely effected the tour. You do not realise the size of the place or the many time zones you can fly through.

I love Mallorca, not the tourists areas but the internal and mountain areas, where the tourists hardly go and when they do go its mainly to the Inca Market, or to get some manufactured pearls.

I also like Croatia, Northern Italy, and Portugal.

There are a lot of people that used to like Croatia twelve months ago. Nearly seven thousand local inhabitants will never now know how the country fared, and certainly not a place to take a holiday. :td

We used to have a hotel on the beach in Split Croatia as a way station on our way to Bosnia, very nice Croatia.

MT I think the worst part is looking at the screens that show you are flying over your eventual destination en route to an airport you don't want to go to, to sit in for hours just to go back to your destination! We've tried both options, fly to UK & then charter or fly direct from Luxor but at least you get a decent luggage allowance & better legroom on the "directish" route. We're doing the Luxor-Cairo-Athens-Crete route again after our first & LAST charter flight on Thomas Cook when we went via the UK a couple of years ago :x

No easy options are there? :(

You've more or less described how I feel about going to Gatwick by coach. Having to go all the way up to Heathrow, only to have to come back halfway down the motorway again to go off to Gatwick. And...much as I enjoy looking out of the plane window when I can I'm not that thrilled coming in from the south, flying up the M3 or M27 knowing that I'm so close to home and yet will have to wait hours doing the journey Gatwick to Heathrow and then duplicating the motorway again before getting home.

Oh the joys of travel and going off to enjoy the far flung places of this earth that we simply must visit and enjoy.

I'm still searching the souks and bazaars for my magic flying carpet, until then I'll have to endure a few hardships to continue my search. :)

I am amazed that anyone is suggesting that there is a need for flights FROM Egypt TO holiday destinations. How many Egyptians can obtain permission to go abroad on holiday, except perhaps to another Islamic nation?

Flights from Luxor to foreign countries include the once a week EgyptAir to Heathrow. The only other non-package holiday flights are to Middle Eastern countries. I have excluded the Thomson flight to Gatwick as it is not easy to book when starting from Egypt.
