Without Prejudice:
After repeated requests by me for your personal thoughts on your visa refusal you wrote this.

I feel certain that our good Dr with his proven skills in tact and diplomacy and the many contacts he has made over his extensive kaleidoscopic life could quite easily discover the answers to his questions above for the benefit of himself and of us all. Don't forget Doc, like it or not, you're one of us, and in six months time further down the line, God forbid, you could be next, and so could many others. At any time your visa renewal may be refused without notice, without reason and without recall to justice, let alone appeal.

I took your advice then, purely from a personnel standpoint.
Within in a week, I was told the reason and as quoted by yourself. could quite easily discover the answers to his questions above for the benefit of himself and of us all.

From that point on I withdrew any little sympathy I had for your situation and still do.
And will go further that many single men living in Luxor could be tarnished by the actions of a few.
My recent advice still stands. "In my opinion for what it's worth all comes down to honesty, honesty with oneself and honest with one's friends.
And all those posts still never say whether you are living in England or living here as 'Persona non Grata....

I can see the Dr's point of view here, like I am sure others can, but there is also another view point to see this from also. We all know that Wiz has some form of dispute with the law in Egypt, he like my self know that the law regarding ex-pats in Egypt, is very different from the process of law, be it litigation or otherwise, than that of English law, where you are innocent until proved guilty. In Egypt it is the opposite, and you are certainly denied council, you are slung in a cell, if you do not have friends to bring you food, you get none. You are then, unceremoniously deported, and escorted onto a plane, perhaps after five or more days in a police cell.

Several years ago, I learnt that Amdowla had been to my home in Luxor seeking information as to my whereabouts the previous evening. Lucky for me, I had a cast iron aliby, I was with the family of a retired senior official in Luxor, and his family throughout. My friend came with me to the Amdowla H.Q., which was then next to Luxor Museum. A very serious accusation was made about me, to which I knew nothing of, they apologised. I later learnt through my friend that the accusation had been brought by an ex-pat, who owned property in Luxor. A new visa was denied to that person, and was asked to leave Egypt. To this day, I was not told who that ex- pat was.

Wiz must be very careful to protect his whereabouts, if he is in Egypt, to petition the President himself, is a dangerous task itself, almost in the same vain as serf in Russia seeking an audience with the Czar,......you have your work cut out Wiz.

Most important of all, do be very careful from where you post on the internet, or your mobile phone use, if the sim is registered to your name.

Our Good friend Kevin ( of Abydos fame ) didn't even get an explanation, but I do suspect that Wizard knows why he didn't get a visa renewal.
I can of course appreciate why Wizard has dodged this question publicly, which has probably led to some frustration from interested parties.
Why not say, I'm not telling ? or PM the answer.

Unfortunately this has ended up like a politician on TV refusing to answer a direct question, and as such, a level of suspicion has been established.

Just my 2 penneth worth, and food for thought that's all.. No Malice intended.. It just what I see... :cg

Good points Bullet, though dodging or refusing to answer the question, is not a sign of guilt under English law. As for your political point, most members of parliament have contact, one form or another with the city, therefore they can be economical with the truth, and as we all know, and always have been.

They say silence is "The language of the God's" and that it is "Golden".. which is true, but when dealing with people on a day to day basis, Sadly, my silence's have condemned me in the past. :st
in my line of work, I have to help people resolve their problems:
The problem I have is that when a user says "the Printer Wont work, come and fix it",
That is of little use to me, I need to know which printer and what the error message is, and also ask the user to tell me if the panel on the printer has any messages like Paper Jam or Toner low...

Information is Key to solving problems, and I know there are many people on here who are only too happy to help others with their problems, or at least help people to help themselves in resolving a problem.

All problems come with the solution built into them.

I had a boss once who would often quote 'There are no problems, only solutions,' That may possibly have been the case, the problem I had to deal with was finding the solutions after he'd created the [non existent] problems.

Another Post Going Nowhere.... Come on people keep up!!!

Thought I would tell you all so It does not take up so much precious time.

Its taking me some time to get used to all this coded talk, but soon I should be able to read txt messages and reply to such. Judging by some of the remarks though I am also not the only one who cannot read or understand this stupid txt messaging system. Perhaps we should all be labelled VI's, has suggested by one poster.... (Village Idiot)

I hate having to learn all this txt talk and the rubbish people send, I had one the other day, I will copy it here " CU 7 dont be L8" I mean its a totally different language. Obviously I did not reply. Then got another "Where RU" so if these people cannot say what they want to say why should I bother. It may be a way to save money on txt messages, cheapskates!!!

It's no bother for me at least. I enjoy reading and writing and I will continue to write as I was taught at school. I don't use "text speak" even when it might be considered appropriate, for example in a text.

If you hate it so much why continue to bring it, or your own version, into an arena that has survived for many years without it, among people who would prefer not to use it and most definitely would prefer not to have to keep trying to decipher what it means.

Surely, if someone goes to the time and trouble to write a post, they are doing it in the hope and assumption that it will be read by some, if not all of the membership. Constantly smattering the posts with non-standard usage of abbreviations (often acronyms of the writers choice rather than any other reasonable logic) is counter productive. It eventually reduces the readership or causes unnecessary hastle and bad feelings.

Keeping up with the times does not mean we have to lower our own standards. If you want to learn a knew language I suggest that Arabic might be more useful to you than text speak!
