I think perhaps a better question here would be, how many have not got a return or open return ticket on EgyptAir to get them out of the country. In view of recent events in Egypt. It would have not bothered me, but like you Dr, l always kept my head down, when l lived there.

Not many I think compared to 3 year ago, I did hear that the community had fallen by around 60%

On my list of to-dos is to get an Egyptian passport next time I am in Luxor. I have never needed it for travel, but if we wanted to flee the country by land or Nile I could use it to enter Sudan without an advance visa, which I can't do with my US passport.

Pure curiosity - but why do you need to wait until you get to Luxor to do this? Surely you can get it done in Cairo (assuming that is where you are).

Because my id is from Luxor, not Cairo, and you have to get your passport issued in the governorate of your legal residence.

:tk Probably a lot more than we think. It's just that some have been sensible and managed to live fairly private, non internet forum, lives.

I remember the number 205 being mentioned at one of the wardens meetings, but not to sure how long ago that was.

Suppose it depends on what you mean by foreign nationals living here, a lot just come for the winter, and those that live here full time there are a lot more than 250, as for the numbers being cut by 60% I only know of one that has returned back to the UK and that was because of illness.

If there are not many leaving there seems to be a lot selling the contents of their flats recently.

Maybe they are broke and need the money. I've heard tour guides have been selling their furniture to feed their families.

Going off my FB page a lot have sold up over the last 2.5 years and gone back. And some have sold stuff because they need/needed the cash. I was very clever as my house was stuffed to the gunnels with never used furniture, all good quality so I got rid of over half of it. Now I'm in the process of buying new stuff to fill the empty rooms at near double the cost and not as good quality. I think I dropped a proverbial one in this instance.

We don't own a car, just have driver's licenses, so I can't tell you for sure. But a driver's license is tied to a specific person whereas a vehicle could presumably belong to more than one person, to a company, etc.

However, if you want to get an IDP based on an Egyptian license, I believe that the only place you can do it is in Cairo (you get a paper confirming the validity of your license from the headquarters of the traffic police in Medinet Nasr and then get the IDP from the automobile club downtown). In that case, the police don't need to look you up, they just register your information off your license and id/passport into a book.

You should know better than to ask Who2, as we have to create at least ten tangent topics before yours is answered. I think you will be on more solid ground once we have got past the FB, power cuts, water cut off's, falling down houses, bootleggers, dope, sexual harassment against the menfolk, price of cat food, should we stand in a square with Egyptians while being white in fancy dress, have turkeys got the balls to stick it out until Xmas and the real price of paint reminiscing one's. :up
