Re: Update British Embassy 21/08/2013.

The Embassy continues to be closed to the public. Closure of the embassy is reviewed on a daily basis and we are hoping to be able to resume our services as soon as we can. British Nationals in urgent need of Emergency Travel documents are allocated appointments to get these issued in time for their travel. This service is currently posted on our website.
John Hamilton is on leave until the end of the month and John Neil, Consular Regional Manager/Colombo, arrived in Cairo earlier in the week to cover for John during his absence.
As you are all aware, a national state of emergency has been declared for Egypt for a period of 1 month and a curfew was declared on 14 August between the hours of 7pm and 6am local time. This is still in place and is expected to continue for several weeks. Please heed the curfew and ensure that you are always home before the stated time. Citizens and foreigners have been arrested for breaking the curfew in the past few days. The governorates affected by this are Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, South Sinai (except for Sharm el Sheikh, Taba and Dahab), North Sinai, Suez, Behera, Minya, Assiut, Souhag, Beni Suef, Ismailia, Qena and Fayoum.

As usual, you are strongly advised to avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings. If you become aware of any nearby protests, leave the area immediately. Don’t attempt to cross road blocks erected by the security forces or protesters.

We are closely monitoring developments, and regularly reviewing and changing our travel advice. Please continue to check the travel advice, facebook and our embassy website on a regular basis for the latest updates. The link to Travel Advice is
