34 protesters gunned down in Cairo

Post by Dusak » Mon Jul 08, 2013 6:39 am

On Press TV news this morning they stated that at least 34 pro Morsi protesters had been gunned down outside the Republican Guard headquarters, presumed to be the place that Morsi is being held at, with an unknown number injured. The TV channel stated that witnesses to this massacre stated that the protesters had attempted to cross the barricades when police and army units opened fire directly into the crowd. Many bodies were shown with the hospital floors awash with blood. Press TV stated that an immediate news blackout had been ordered by those in charge covering all TV channels both state owned and privately owned.

From Al Arabiya:

Unidentified gunmen attacked the Republican Guard officers’ club in Egypt, killing 16 people, medical sources said, amid reports that army killed at least 16 Islamist activists during a protest on Monday.
“A group of armed terrorists tried to break into the Republican Guards’ headquarters on Monday,” the Egyptian army said in a statement.

Watching footage of this at the moment on Al Jazeera.
It's like a vision of Hell.People getting carried on stretchers, hospitals dealing with the injured, bodies on the floor.
Reports say 5 children are amongst the dead.
Just hellish.

It's bad whatever happened, and I expect there will be further reprisals no doubt, the situation seems to be deteriorating daily, I saw a lot of protestors waving anti western banners, so take care, and stay safe.
Apparently there are more than 30 reported dead overnight, listening to radio 4 news this morning, even the press reporters are being manhandled, the numbers of dead have gone up to 35 at least, with more being injured. It's getting serious now, and sorry to say I fail to see the answer to this crisis.

It would appear another Islamist party is coming out as favourites to take over, has anyone else "on the ground" soto speak heard this news?

Sadly the official number of dead has risen to 42 with a near hundred wounded. The Army state that they were attacked by a well armed terrorist group, killing one officer and wounding five of his men. But the BBC reporter that interviewed several independent witnesses all state the same, that the people were peaceful and were just beginning their prays when the special forces division of the police rained down a hail of bullets over a period of thirty minutes. Killing men, one woman and five young children. It does not matter which side of the fence these people were on, they were innocent people taking part in their democratic rights of protesting peacefully. This was unwarranted wholesale slaughter and the ones giving the orders should be brought to task.

In this line of business, this event as I anticipated is known as 'whiff of grape shot', period and while those that died today will be seen by many as terrorists, their bodies were indeed covered by the Egyptian flag.

Egypt I fear, is about to enter a new chapter, where that one leads is any ones guess, let us all hope that it is short, and that a new Egypt can move forward.

Just re-iterating a point here (one I posted about previously.)
My full respect goes to the Doctors and nurses working through this tragedy.
Have you seen the conditions they're working in?The lack of supplies?I'm sure they never imagined that they would be dealing with an incident on this scale.
But,they're working through all this adversity, treating people,in what is a chaotic situation.
They're wonderful.
