CT broadening her horizon

Post by Kaiserbernese » Tue Apr 03, 2012 4:55 pm

You may be interested to know that the Chairman of a Luxor charity wrote a letter to the Daily Mail in the UK that was printed in today's edition.

She was bemoaning the fact that she had not had a reply to her letter sent to the Overseas Development Department. Apparently she wanted to know the breakdown of aid sent to Egypt.
She finishes this letter with 'so much for transparency'.

Surely that's a case of pot calling kettle?

Does it really matter that much to those not involved??? As I see it the woman is trying to get aid and support for her charity, which helps the poor and needy around Luxor. Surely that is a good thing!
Personal feelings and ridicule should be kept out of it, sounds a bit like sour grapes.
If you ran a charity wouldn't you be interested in where all the so called aid was going in the country?

It isn't necessary to write two letters to the Daily Mail to find out where UK Aid to Egypt has gone. A couple of googles shows the UK gave £5 million last October to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development which has the capacity to invest as much as €2.5 billion a year in job creation in small and medium sized businesses in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia.

Little Stars are entitled to believe that they can help Egypt's transition and economy in more fruitful ways than the EBRD, and they may well be right, but they are mistaken to believe that all UK aid comes in the form of grants to small charities, or that welfare charities registered in the UK and under UK management are necessarily best placed to develop and sustain Egypt's future recovery.

LittleLily,

funnily enough I DO run a charity in the UK.

As a new member you clearly do not know the history of this person, nor how she runs her charity.
My post was not a case of 'sour grapes or personal ridicule'. I was just informing those who read this forum of what she was up to now.

Read what you like into that!

Well, I do know of the charity in question, as I also know of the one you are a trustee of in Ormskirk.

Because I am a new member it does not mean I know nothing. I know people who support the other charity and they have never voiced any concern.

As there has not been any real interest shown in your post, perhaps others are not as bothered about it as you obviously are. Sorry, but I still say this is personal.

I think its best to lock this topic, I cant see a problem in a charity asking where overseas aid goes to, some people are happy with LittleStarsLuxor others are not, but that can be said about all charities.
