Saffron..

Post by Who2 » Fri Nov 09, 2018 9:41 am

So the other day on my birthday, I bought myself a long awaited tool.
A Tagin or Tajine لطاجين,
I'm mad on kitchen gadgets, this is full size, cost only £14 quid and got it from Fayruz Hotel Garden,
whilst supping an *ice-cold Stella......

So, my question Do any of you know of a *reputable herb & spice seller ? as I'm after real Saffron, not the 'colderd wood crap sold here.
Sounds daft, but I always buy my herbs and spices back in Blighty because of their quality.
Any recommendations out there ?......'cheers.... 8)
Ps: What I really wanted was one of these:

Still trying to figure out how to get it here without taxs', grief ect, perhaps Hurgharda pretending it's a sail-board!

Not just coloured wood rubbish either DR, many tourists ask for ground Saffron and end up with the cheapest of cheap Cumin when they get home.

Hi Doc, I can sometimes find Iranian Saffron here, but it is very expensive; the Turkish Saffron is cheaper but not good, I don't use it. I'll find out the current price. I'll be coming to Luxor in January so can bring you some?

Who2, I hope you've got a good heat diffuser if you are going to be using your tagine on a gas cooker.

If the tagine isn't glazed, don't forget to season it first.

Longer term solution. Next time in the UK buy some of these and grow your own next Winter. Only takes 6 weeks to reach crop.
