Qurna diet lunches for DELIVERY

Post by Eurydice »

Being a fan of the famous for its quality/price ratio food local restaurant in Qurna (500 m from the Qurna Hospital) I dare to post here the reminder of their delivery service available. (With the consent of the owner Ahmed el Moshid).
Complete lunch, cooked with fresh (not frozen) and local poultry and meat, bread and delivery included:
1/4 chicken + Molokheya soup + cooked vegetables + bowl of rice with vermicelli= 20 LE;
1/2 chicken +..... = 35 LE;
whole chicken +.... = 65 LE.
the same with meat = 25 LE per portion;
pigeon stuffed with rice + Molokheya soup +cooked vegetables + bowl of rice with vermicelli = 30 LE.

They take orders daily 10-11 am and deliver the same day 1-2 pm to Rambleh and Gezira, all hot and neat. The orders over 90 LE can be delivered to Esbah and Jotf as well.

Molokheya soup ? more like Molokheya s*** or even snot! it was even banned once in Egypt from 985-1021... :cool:
Ps: Why banned ? it was for a sexual reason, probably smearing it as a lubricant!

Well I would sure loose weight on that food, and that's for certain, sounds like a good menu for some people. for me apart from the chicken the rest would end up in the bucket.

I'm not a big fan of Molokheya either, so don't think that I will be partaking.

I am still trying to work out what the famous ? is that you are a fan of. OK, I assume it's a restaurant from the other information given but presumably it has a name if that is the case. Please would you let the rest of us into the secret.

There is no name still, but many locals go there when they crave quality food... And some expats and tourists as well... Those who know where to go... :))
About the rice... Am not a fan of a rice either, but... surprisingly... I have never gained weight after their food.

The post was placed for those who wish to enjoy FRESH MEAT (not frozen one) and somehow just prefer not to cook at certain dates and would like sometimes to enjoy good food sitting on their private balconies... That is it. Thanks and Bon appetit...

'Bon appetit' is not a lot of good to me if I don't know where to find the outlet in the first place! :(

I may well have to good appetite but it looks like it will not be satisfied next time I am in that neck of the woods. That's a shame as I was thinking I could get a 'Take Away' and save some of my friends the trouble of cooking for me as they won't go to a restaurant or cafe with me as that is something that they just don't do.

That is a really good endorsement. Either there is no calorific content or the food induces some rapid emetic response. Don't think I want to go there!

From what I understand as written, this place is not in Quena, it is El Tarrife, on the main road past the Hospital, walk along the road NORTH, and on the left hand side, somewhat further than 500metres, you will come across a place where chicken is cooked on a spit-roast. What you may not notice is hidden away there is what once was an excellent inexpensive 'transport cafe'. Now that this road gets much less traffic these days,...........I am sure they will even welcoming the awajas who live on the WB, and a delivery service to boot,...........well, order quickly before standards fall,....................Oh, and for Christ sake don't check out the kitchen.

It's as stated but down a ramp, they cook roughly the same food everyday as my builders used to eat deliveries from there everyday and still do when employed by me.... :cool:

You may be interested to know Carrie that if you were to 'wander' 500metres further along this same road towards the north, take a sharp left, then follow this road to the top of a hill, you will come across a school. Throughout this area, are many nobles tombs from the 12th Dynasty. If you are known by the people in this area, they may, if they feel they can trust you, will show you a couple of them.

Guide books from the 1980's warned tourist to give this area a very wide berth, one even suggested you may be shot at. El Tarrife is a very special place, and l wish l could write more,........but no.

P.S. - Happy wandering.

Sorry for being late with the answer...
Any local men knows Ahmed El Moshd restaurant in Qurna. One may ask a mini bus driver as well, they know.
It is not the place to invite friends for a special occasion, it is very very local, like a canteen. That is why I offered the information on delivery here. They cook fairly good food, stable quality, and they operate since around 2008. The food is from fresh local ingredients, never oily or salty, and just nice. Several local millionaires are spotted there often... They come by their private cars.

I thought it was supposed to be a cheap place to eat.
How does everyone else get there? :wi
