Surprisingly the restaurant was pretty full, table settings were very nice as was the atmosphere.
We ordered from the specials menu fried chicken and Mince onion pie with mash, the owner kindly 1/2 a portion for my daughter and charged a child price. Food was actually pretty good, service was excellent so was the hot chocolate fudge cake including drinks and wine the bill came in around 250 Egyptian.
Air conditioning is pretty strong but we were moved instantly
I bug bear I have is wobbly tables and if that's the only downside I can recommend this restaurant
Your asking me (I am not known for my mapping or naming skills, tried hard this time and still forgot to find the of the road).
Ok there are a few streets opposite the Sonesta that house lots of the restaurants named on this forum, it's 2 doors up from Egypt property sales its not the turning which has signs for the Kings Head Believe it's one along as your looking with your back to the Nile.
Tripadvisor will have it on a map, go by taxi . No doubt other members will reply with better instructions (sorry).
On the whole I enjoy the food in there, expensive compered to others of the same rating but good food and service. However I became disappointed with the chips as they suddenly started to give you twelve fat ones stacked up like that Chines game that you had to pull one out without toppling the others and they where a bad example of blanched potato. And I find the continual hovering around the table by the ''luvvie'' a tad annoying.

I have to agree with the first and last points. Also, I always get the feeling if you are not English you are not completely welcome/acceptable. But your money is.
Have to agree to disagree on this one just been to the Jewel on the Nile quality does not compare, felt we were in a café and as such food was ok standard (for a café) 220 Egyptian for 3 adults 1 child and 4 soft drinks, no body actually ate all their meal the tahini came as we were finishing the meal.
The owner was pleasant enough perhaps to pleasant to my husband but ditched this website so feel free to comment openly. My daughter's comment's were not so nice i.e. rice was cold etc... bearing in mind the price and location all in all ok.
Much preferred the Lantern (possibly green)! even with the over active hostess.

Also have to agree with this. The food is lovely but I don't need to be asked every 10 mins how lovely it is while I am trying to eat. Have also, in the past been disappointed in the wait for a booked table as the restaurant has been overbooked and consequently felt a little rushed to vacate again.
I personally much prefer the Jewel and have never had a cold or poorly served meal there. I am sure Laura would be mortified to think her outgoing chat was though to be a little over friendly though. The rather good looking chef in the kitchen is her husband

Speak up to be heard
Shut up to be appreciated
As from a diners point of view I prefer Russell's way at the Taste of India. Customer comes in receives a ''Hi'' half way through they get ''everything ok?'' when leaving they get a ''by, thank you.'' On the whole customers have at least two brain cells between then so can easily tell you if the service/food/staff/period of wait/chairs/tables are cack. No need to keep prompting them. Rock on Russ. :d2:
Agree with You Dusak, My Wife and I have eaten there once or twice, but I am not a curry lover, so stick with the plain dishes..
Good food at a good price,..
My Experience of Jewel ' has always been Good,
Mahmoud, Lauras Hubby is an excellent chef and a nice bloke. The food is good as is the service.
What I like about it is that you can sit down outside between courses and after the meal and enjoy some social intercourse with what I have always found to be very nice people, some of whom frequent this site, both tourists and ex-pats...
I do think Laura's setup attracts the customers back again as they can chat amongst themselves and with the staff outside..
There's a time for everyone, if they only learn

I am glad to see that The Lantern has reopened with a new menu and new decor. It is great to see the Restaurant open again. Well worth a visit.

And if you lined up a Chinese, Thai, Indian and Egyptian restaurant next to one another, I'd be eating at the first three before I would eat at the latter. When I am in London, you won't find me...

As I constantly learn the art of butchering the various parts of my Cairean Zabaleen porky, I thought about it. The Zabaleen utilize 'pinky & perky's to recycle Cairo's waste.
