I bought a book which came with a CD for pronounication practice , its callled " Eygptian Colloquial Arabic." good book. It has a grammar section at each end of the lessons, its in basic form, so even easy for me tounderstand. But there is a problem with it........ it doesnt contain the words that my husband uses...... so for a reference book for Luxor speak its no good. :x

But the best way I have found to learn is from the children. They are more patient with me and they speak slowly. I am teaching them English in return. But to my chargrine, they are learning a lot quicker then I am.

Thank you & Welcome Volcano. We are over in October too, going out 4th, when are you there? There is a thread on visiting Luxor which lists all the dates. :)

I tried learning Arabic from Rosetta Stone and all i can remember is 'Wellad wa kelb' which i apparently pronounce wrong as it isnt Egyptian Arabic.

Never, EVER try to learn Arabic from your Egyptian partner....for the same reason as should never let them teach you to drive!

Hi

Thanks for the welcome FAB. I also fly on the 4th Oct, from Manchester. Can't wait - I've got 'Egypt withdrawal symptoms'!

The place gets under your skin, doesn't it?

Hi, I started to try to learn to speak arabic. I think I have come to the decission that I will never be able to read arabic but I am determined to speak it and understand it. I bought book and cd's from the teach yourself ' arabic' range it was soooo hard I gave in. Then I found this kiddies lanuage cd called talk now plus. Well I'm not ashammed to say that it was great fun with little games and nice cartoons. It was really easy and there is this thing that records your voice so you know for sure that you are saying it right. I can now count to ten, know most of my friut and vegetables, and know quite a few words for this and that. just cannot put them into a sentence yet! So to start off, i think this is great for someone who is not a rocket scientist.. however, when I read from phrase books, my partner has no clue what I am going on about cause he says I sound too english so I think you need to be able to hear the words you are learning in the correct tone and accent.
forever, Amanda xx

I say this with no shame at all ........ The biggest help I got in speaking arabic was from Alam SimSim - The Arabic version of Sesame Street. It's on everyday on tv here - for months I couldn't get the alphabet song out of my head!

[face=Comic Sans MS]Sounds good to me Goddess. :)

I saw some lovely childrens 'Learn Arabic' books a while back, think they had a tape or CD with them too, typically didn't buy them at the time and now can't remember where I saw them or what they were called. :( [/face]

hatusu, Hi,

My wife and I have been studying Arabic for the last two years and we are also interested in private tuition when we will be in Luxor during December. Would you be good enough to pass us on to your teacher. We will be staying at the Gezire gardens West Bank

Best regards

Bryan Llewellyn

Sorry, wrong container for my post, that will teach me to use two machines at once.

I was posting on the use of Rossetta Stone, same images and the same text structure in all of their packages.

Off to take my medication now.
