First, I had to find out what a jerboa is! My Collins Dictionary says the word is derived from the Arabic yarbu' – and the 'u' has a dash over it. But at least now I can throw 'jerboa' into a conversation!

One has to translate, 'yani al arabi...'small jumpy things that are always happy cause? they's a jumping, jumping. They come in all sizes, deep in the desert once we watched one like the size of a small wallaby, he was at least 8" tall or small and boy he jumped over everything around us jump, jump, jump oh! and this one was pure white.
All related to guinea pigs I believe, the jumpy ones just grew big legs and jumped off into the void, oh! yes and in Australia very very big jerboa's in Australia, what's that all about then? the mind boggles... 8)
'I had a pogo stick once ,lacking sadly lacking.......

And it was one of those I saw behind the Ramasseum cafe this time last year with Shareen.
Anyone else seen one?

I knew someone would be able to help!

I have bought the Metropolitan Museum of Art book One Blue Hippo which is a counting-to-ten book for rug-rats, and it features ancient Egyptian artifacts in its collection, including "3 little jerboas"! I also bought the accompanying blue hippo soft toy, for a friend's child in my husband's village. I am going to get him to write the text in Arabic under the English.

Mmm, Dr, we have ém in all sizes from incy-wincy small to huuuuuuuge! Oops! No, my mistake, they are called Red Kangaroos!

Thanks again! :)

Do you know, I've only just realised what Rugrats are! (all this time I've been thinking it's nothing more than a Disney cartoon!).
