Been off-line for some time doing things other than computer gazing.
I have a few big old banana plants and was wondering if I collect the sap from the trunks can I make alcohol ?
All replies greatly received.

Re: Banana Alcohol ?
I.3.4-Banana stem
High concentration of cellulose with low lignin content and its easy availability makes banana pseudostem as potential lignocellulosic biomass which could be used for the production of bioethanol. The composition of BPS on dry basis is holocellulose – 72.71%, klason lignin – 8.88%, acid soluble lignin – 1.9%, ash content – 8.2%, extracts - 3.05% and pectin -0.27% (Chittibabu et al, ).
It appears you can get bioethanol from the stems.....and you're away!

Re: Banana Alcohol ?
Well that's a non-starter. I tapped a 30 inch circumference stem and after 24 hrs only managed to collect 3 inches of brownish tasting water. Next I shall try date palms...
