Grabbed by the Canticles
I have always liked this rendition by Simon & Garfunkel, especially the way the other words are woven into this canticle like rendition. Did you realise that these other words being sung are quite modern and extracted from Paul Simon’s song The Side of a Hill?

Re: Grabbed by the Canticles
Thank you...made my day! I've long wondered what the words of the descant (not the right word, I know) woven into this classic meant. All clear now

Your welcome Newcastle, its surprising what little snippets of useless information come into your mind while listening to music and doing the housework.

I bet you have accidentally pressed one of the function keys to either 'mute' the sound or lowered the volume too low for you to hear it.

Re: Grabbed by the Canticles
No. The volume is up full. I've discovered that my F11 key - the sound on/mute key - which I usually have set as off/mute unless I do want to listen to something, is working according to my screen. By that I mean when I press the F11 I can see the sound/mute change. However, the red light is on no matter what the screen icon says. I've no sound from it at all.Horus wrote:I bet you have accidentally pressed one of the function keys to either 'mute' the sound or lowered the volume too low for you to hear it.
I can't remember the last time I listened to something via my laptop, but it's not that long ago.

Have you tried plugging some headphones or ear buds into the output jack?

Oh well.....
Looks like you'll have to learn the Deaf & Dumb sign language.
And only watch stuff on your laptop which has a 'signing' character in the bottom right hand corner interpreting the speaker/singer

Amazing! I must have dozens that I have aquired over the years, everything I buy seems to have a set of ear buds included. Just stop the first gormless looking teenager you see walking along in a dream like state and oblivious to his/her surroundings as they will have some stuck in their ears listening to music, ask if they have a spare pair you can borrow.HEPZIBAH wrote:I don't have any.

Until such time as I manage to '... stop the first gormless looking teenager ...' I will just have to continue listening to the Sound of Silence.

Seriously though Hepzi, you can pick them up dirt cheap at lots of places and it may be a way of checking out if the sound card is actually faulty or not.

Re: Grabbed by the Canticles
I'll have to have a little search around. I've probably got earbuds somewhere that came with a phone. I just never use them (hate them in fact) so they tend to get put away in that safe place, just in case they may be needed in the future, and then never found again.

Yep, Conversation over.. Sorry about that.
Engage Rant Mode:
I ******* hate Windows 10 with a ******* vengeance,
I was forced, yes Forced to adopt it as my native OS on my desktop machine, it has cost me so many hours of lost work I cannot even begin to tell you !
It has rebooted in the middle of the night after installing update I had no idea were going to be installed,
as a result of the unscheduled reboot, it didn't save any of my work that was open, destroyed the files system on my Linux virtual machine.
The other night, while on the late shift, I though I had dropped lucky, Windows 10 said it had just installed some updates ( without me even asking it to or knowing it was doing this )
and it needed to reboot the machine. I defiantly clicked on NO, as I had lots of tabs open and loads of unsaved work.
I then made the mistake of nipping outside for a ciggie, and at some point during said ciggie break I found Windows 10 had infact ****** me up again, and ******* well rebooted itself.
I hate the entire "touch screen" interface, its slowness and flatness in appearance. I cannot find a single thing I am looking for, Even though I log in as administrator I find I am not even really "The" Administrator, oh for gods sake give me a break ya evil ******* !! **** *** and die ! Along with Windows 8 and 8.1 After all, Windows 10 is only Windows 8.1 in its final realse version, as 8 and 8.1 never worked properly ! WHAT WAS WRONG WITH WINDOWS 7 or XP for that matter !!!!!!!!!!!!
I Do not fall for all this Best Windows ever ! it is not, it is utter shyte,
RANT MODE: OFF
Sorry Hepzibah, you are on your own. Good luck....
I'm going to sit down and calm myself down now, and wait for the LDS to kick in.. ( That's LSD to you non dyslexiks ) Nite all...

Re: Grabbed by the Canticles
Well if you can't beat em Newcastle may as well join them, told you I was in "moan mode" actually we have 4 more power cuts since, comes on for 10 mins then off again. I have never been so clean the amount of showers I have taken today.
To be positive I got all my ironing done this morning before the power outages started, gave my flat a good clean, even cleaned on top of the wardrobes, please don't ask me why, these little idiosyncrasies come over me now and again. So now a happy clean bunny in a happy clean flat.
