Nimrod

Post by newcastle »

Beautiful rendition of Lux Aeterna set to Elgar's Nimrod.

Quite hard to believe it's sung a cappella

phpBB [video]

"Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine, cum sanctis tuis in aeternum,
quia pius es.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.

May light eternal shine upon them, O Lord, with Thy saints forever,
for Thou art Kind.
Eternal rest give to them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them."

Elgar's Nimrod has always been a piece of music to stir my soul. That rendition does not disappoint.

Probably in the minority....from what you read in the press

Just as well you weren't singing century ago...

"Most people think castrating choirboys is inhumane - but not singer Ernesto Tomasini. "I regret not having been castrated," he says. "I would have perfectly happily given up my masculinity for my art." Just over a century ago he would have got his wish: at the height of the craze for male sopranos, 5,000 boys a year were castrated in order to preserve their unbroken voices. Those who proved mediocre mouldered away in parish choirs, but the successful "sacred monsters" were cosseted and adored."

Being "cosseted and adored" came with a price

Some time ago I came across this young man on YouTube who sang A cappella with himself by using recording and editing technology. I think he is rather good especially as you get into the rendition. :up

How Great Thou Art is one of my favourite hymns, and one I have sung many times in my life congregationally, chorally, and as a solo. That version doesn't really appeal to me, but each to their own.

Yes but maybe your traumatised mind has made you forget the incident, (potential claim here) ;) or he may have been a very small endowed priest.

Bit of a bleedin "dirge"if you ask me!

If we all gotta ask for God's guidance and forgiveness..and to rest in peace forever..then surely something more upbeat is required!

Times have changed!

And p.s..last time I heard of Nimrod..I'm sure it was on Startrek, with Spock and Bones!

There are maudlin songs/hymns that cause everyone to weep..and appreciate the sound and sanctity of them.

Then there are the more upbeat numbers, sung with GUSTO!

What do you prefer?

My old dad died in February. We could've had a maudlin Catholic requiem mass.We chose not to!For God's sake he was 88years old,and had lived a good and happy life!
So,his requiem Mass was a celebration of a life...not a bleedin "maudlin"affair of an auld bugger who had died!

And this "Nimrod"thing?I'm sure he would have been very touched if it was played!Bored stiff,I'll bet...but he never missed an episode! Was his favourite programme!

Something more 'up-beat' and 'happy-clappy' then ....just for you :)

Talking about 'welease Wodger, which we weren't, life as I see for me could have been worse.
