Rik Mayall dies

Rik Mayall has died at the age of 56, a spokesman for his management company said today.

The comedian and actor - most famous for his roles in The Young Ones and Bottom - died this morning.

Mayall, born in Harlow, Essex, had an illustrious career and was a key member of the 1980s alternative comedy scene.

As well as starring in The Young Ones and Bottom, he appeared in Blackadder, The New Statesman and Hollywood film Drop Dead Fred.
