Re: secrets of the saqqara tomb
Thanks for reminder. Worth getting a free Netflix trial for
I think I’m right in saying Hawass doesn’t feature at all. That alone should make it watchable!

Re: secrets of the saqqara tomb
Watched it.....and agree with garfield4 that it a remarkable film!
120 mins...but doesn’t feel like it. Riveting and informative throughout. You can sense the enthusiasm of the excavators and their reverence for their ancestors.
Lacks the sensationalism so prevalent in Discovery Channel egyptological programmes and which spoils them. No ego trip for Hawass or Hawass-like associates. Even the redoubtable Salima Ikram makes a her presence modest and relevant.
The film is particularly notable for the insight it gives to the lives of the ordinary excavators....from diggers, to foreman. To the egyptologists, anthropologists and mummy specialists. The subtitles are informative and unobtrusive.
Well worth a month’s Netflix subscription to watch

Re: secrets of the saqqara tomb
We have it ready to go in the next few days. Now we are back in lockdown again I am looking for more interesting stuff to watch. Last night it was Bettany Hughes on the history of the Spartans from 2002.

Re: secrets of the saqqara tomb
We watched Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb last night.
An excellent piece of laid back film making narrated purely by those working on the tomb. No over the top dramatic American voices. You could really feel the emotion in their voices as they made the discoveries and the two reading the Hieroglyphs were so much fun. Definitely worth watching. Pleased to say that I was still able to follow some of the Arabic even correcting the sub-titles on occasion.

I watched it in two halves. Really enjoyed it for its 'Real' unscripted production and how excavation of old sites really is.
Thanks for the heads up Garfield 4
