NOT only in France.

Post by DJKeefy »

Egyptian prosecutors investigate burkini row at Sinai resort.

Prosecutors in the Egyptian governorate of South Sinai are questioning a beach resort official after he allegedly attempted to ban a woman from wearing a full-body burkini in a swimming pool and verbally berated her.

The woman filed a legal complaint alleging the official in the resort in Raas Sedr asked her to get out of the pool as she was swimming in her burkini and when she refused he hurled insults at her and her friends, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

She claims he then threw chlorine in the pool, while describing her swimwear as "disgusting." He ordered resort workers to take their clothes off and swim in their underwear next to the women in a sign of derision, she added.

The prosecutors are identifying whether the resort regulations include any ban on burkinis.

The burkini, which originated in Australia, is a swimsuit that covers much of the body and the head, and has been favoured by Muslim women who prefer to cover on the beach.

A recent ban on the burkini in some French towns has caused worldwide controversy after photos emerged of armed French police confronting a woman on the beach and forcing her to remove some of her clothing.

A top French court on Friday suspended the ban on wearing the garment.

In Cairo, many women who wear the hijab have complained that they are prevented from entering restaurants, night clubs and other venues due to their dress.

Another case I am afraid of MEN trying to tell women what to put on their bodies.

Australia might have invented the burkini - debatable - but that doesn't mean there is no low level harassment of wearers on beaches by hoons.

Bad behaviour by isolated bigots, which is the Egypt and Australian story, is quite different to state sponsored discrimination. Only the French could so torture the meaning of the word liberty into a rule (now over-ruled) which oppresses a minority.

So will the Burkini take off, or will male domination in certain Countries prevent it?

The Burkina took off quite some years ago. However, since the banning of it in certain French resorts sales have soared and the garments are being bought and worn by women of all faiths and non.

I have to admit I had never heard of the Burkini until arriving here in Australia. I think women should have the right to wear what they want and men should get over it. However I am not in agreements with garments that cover the whole body and allow terrorists to escape, like has happened in the past.

Look on the bright side of things because if the male staff had jumped into the water in just their undies, then said undies would of been cleaner than they had been in years when they had got out.

I saw a related video clip yesterday that disturbed me. I was using my phone (so small screen) and not in a position to put the volume on. It showed a police man on a beach telling a burkina clothed woman to take it [burkina hood ?] off and at one point grabbing to pull the hood off her head. I had no idea where this was. I've been searching for the clip since and have now found it.

What originally disturbed me was that the lady on her own dressed in a burkini was singled out when other women were sitting on the beach wearing full clothing and hijab. Equally, I noticed they didn't immediately come to the single woman's aid whereas others did.

I've since learnt, from reading an article in the Daily Mail, that this was a social experiment. For the article see: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... paign=1490

Personally, I'm still very much pro the burkini and just hope that those who cannot see beyond their own stupidity get over their own sense of self importance quickly.

A social experiment that could of gone pear shaped for the 'actor policeman.' What if, within hearing range, had sat a radicalized ''new wave Muslim.'' Within a flash he could of slashed his throat while shouting ''Allahu Akbar.'' So which side of this point would of proven correct? Should we leave well enough alone and ignore the wearers of the Burkini and recognize them as just ordinary females enjoying the freedom of the beach, or say that yes, the terrorist can be found and their anger fueled anywhere anytime, especially when a stupid stunt is pulled by those ''just wanting to see how people react.'' These types of things can cause far more damage in the long run.

I hear it's 2 to 1 in favour of banning the 'full-monty back in Blighty.
I tend to agree but disagree with banning the 'burkini.
When a diver i used to wear a rubber suit, what's the difference ?....8)
Ps: And in the frozen waters surrounding the UK a warm pee in a rubber suit is a 'lovely feeling....

I'd rather see the burka banned than the burkini! The burkini still allows the face to show, whereas the burka completely covers, and anyone could be underneath it. France is being paranoid and ridiculous! :x

Give them an unexpected treat, strip search them so we see equality in public treatment.

Doesn't an Anglo bride approaching the alter cover her face and, at the last moment, lift the veil to reveal her face.

Will the 'perfidious' french will prohibit that - together with nuns swimming with maximum protection.

I'm all for the burkini. In fact I think it should be extended to males. In addition I think it should be made compulsory for all males and females over 55 years on all beaches. This would improve general aesthetics and conceal the decrepitude of age from the young and impressionable. What could be be better than protecting the young from ugliness. Overweight Russians could also be put into head to foot coverage. :D

From an earlier thread on the subject :

There is probably a get out for wedding veils :

"The French ban on face covering (French: Loi interdisant la dissimulation du visage dans l'espace public, "Act prohibiting concealment of the face in public space") is an act of parliament passed by the Senate of France on 14 September 2010, resulting in the ban on the wearing of face-covering headgear, including masks, helmets, balaclavas, niqābs and other veils covering the face in public places, except under specified circumstances"

Also;

"As a result of the law, the only exceptions to a woman wearing a niqāb in public will be if she is travelling in a private car or worshiping in a religious place"

I imagine a veil in church or at private wedding party is ok.
