Dutch tourist drives his car into a donkey cart o

Post by Glyphdoctor »

Apparently the expat community has its own bad drivers. A Dutch tourist was reported in the news today to have plowed his car into a donkey cart on the West Bank and the driver of the donkey cart had to be hospitalized.

What happened to the donkey?
Was it too "hospitalized?"
Or was it just given a smack on the backside and told to "pull"itself together?

I'm not being flippant!
Does the tourist know that by his actions he could've deprived a family of their livelihood?

No doubt I will be ranted at for this comment but it has to be said.
Donkey carts and their drivers often have to be rapidly avoided as they bumble out into fast moving traffic without looking ( Gods will and all that). Without knowing the full situation blame should not be aportioned.

I expect there are bad drivers in the ex-pat community but, without any further information, we neither know whether this was an ex-pat (as opposed to tourist) nor whether he was at fault at all.

I have noticed repeatedly that Jeep drivers in this country are the biggest assholes on the road. I stay clear when I see one coming. Especially if it has green plates, because then it can get away with anything.

My recipe for avoiding accidents (as a driver) is to treat ALL other road users as complete assholes.

Even so, you'll find the odd kamikaze determined to run into you despite your best efforts and it's frustrating that, even when they are blatantly "at fault", getting recompense is usually impossible. Unless there's serious damage or injury to persons involved neither the culprit, nor the law, seems that interested....in my experience.

Thankfully, attending to minor dents & scrapes is relatively cheap in Egypt.

Was this incident during the hours of darkness? really they should have at least reflective triangles on the back to make them more visible. Regarding the fact they just pull out onto main roads, this is a big problem, that drivers and riders should be made well aware of. Regarding Jeeps and other 4 wheel drive vehicles, I was tempted at one time but then thought that, I am a fairly good driver that spent all of my time on the road, and not on soft verges, climbing kerbs or trying to get back on the road following a heavy night out.
