Muppet Style Terrorist Threat to Egypt - Vodaphone involved

Post by Hafiz »

What is it about dictatorships with humor and satire. Water and oil. Supreme and all knowing leaders don’t like the p.. taken.

Abla Fahita, a cute puppet, is about to change all that. Allegations of the ‘Muppet Brotherhood’ and coded messages sent by her over Youtube abound. She has hit a nerve with the ever earnest Salvationist interim government who aren't about to let a soft and fluffy toy prevent them from saving Egypt whatever the price.

The BBC world service have even interviewed ‘her’ but her real identity is a secret because of threats of the death penalty for terrorism (is anyone guiltless of terrorism) and treason (is there nothing which is not treasonous). The BBC story makes clear the benign, political objectives of the puppet movement but that is not likely to save her from Tora prison. Thousands of secret police are said to be hunting her down in cyberspace and to link her with newly treasonous Vodaphone.

Conspiracies are alleged but is there anything in Egypt today which is not a conspiracy. The puppet conspiracy alleges heinous crimes committed by Vodaphone in their conspiracy with the Brotherhood. How the puppet story meshes with Vodaphone probably won’t be a problem for the gullible army worshipers and other hysterics.

And, no she doesn’t wear the veil but does wear a headscarf al la Somalia. Maybe she’s a al Shaabab terrorist rather than a local grown one. For those who are interested she is multilingual. A few mutterings in the souk should get the Somalia rumor going. You never know you to could become a source for al Ahram's next (Somali) story on this grave matter.

The choice of a female character is interesting and, locals will have a view, might be less threatening to her audience and, in any event, is based on that well trodden path that women are the best critics of men and skilled in pricking pride.

This story really has legs, hope it runs a while before, inevitably, its legs get shot off. Good luck to them, speech is not dead in Egypt but I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. Bring on Miss Piggy for the encore.

A serious article on why dictators don’t like jokes and ‘terroristic’ laughtism, including satire in Egypt over the past 5 years or so, is at http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2 ... like_jokes
