I thought it would work out a lot cheaper getting a sim with data for your smartphone then use your smartphone as a hotspot, then you could connect any WIFI device to the hotspot connection. :)

Your TAB has WIFI, so you can connect to a hotspot on your smartphone and use its data, it will work out a lot cheaper.

Only use this way if you are buying an Egyptian sim for your smartphone.

Get an Egyptian sim, calls and data or just data if you dont want to make calls, there is an option in the settings on your phone called HOTSPOT, turn this on and your TAB will be able to connect to your smartphone and use the 3g/4g data like its a WIFI connection :)

Best way to find out more is search google:

When in Egypt I buy an EE bolt on for my UK mobile usually around £10 for 60 minutes of calls anywhere in the world. I usually receive a lot of calls from the UK hence a mifi box which cost me around 400EP from Vodaphone. Each year I come I have to change my sim card as I can't use it in the UK. Don't forget to take your passport as they need to record your details.

I've also bought a 3G sim free mifi box from Maplin a few years ago and use it as a standby. Sadly Maplin is no more.

Maybe I'm missing something, but i can not understand why you would buy a box (mifi) to broadcast a WIFI signal, when your smartphone can do exactly the same :ni:

Yer not missing anything really Keefy, that system as you say works very, well, I use it quite often when I'm travelling. Of course it works off a so called smart phone, the only thing you have not made quite clear is that in SETTINGS it comes up as PPERSONAL HOTSPOT, ( it has to be switched on before use).

Because I want to keep my UK sim card in my iphone to make and receive calls nationally. Using wifi in Egypt from a UK sim card costs a fortune.

It is a problem....

I’m with Vodafone which charges £6 a day for using your UK data/ call allowance in Egypt.

I rarely make calls when in Egypt but it is important for me to receive messages. I don’t have a smart phone but an old Nokia (cost me £10!) to which I transfer my UK sim.

For internet in Egypt I use a locally bought mifi...it cost me about 500 le I think....and buy a local sim (usually 30GB which easily does me for a 3-4 weeks) Cost about 200 le.

I am on a SIM-only deal with 3 in the UK, which gives me unlimited everything for £20 a month. It includes roaming in a large number of countries, and it was fantastic in Spain last year, being able to use my allowances as normal, including watching Netflix, etc, without even needing a VPN to get around the geofencing. Egypt, however is not on the Go-Roam list, I usually buy a local SIM with about 20GB data. Cost me less than £10 last time, Hurghada airport in October 2018.
