Taxis - Luxor/East and West Banks

Post by AladdinSane » Fri Aug 31, 2018 2:51 pm

What would be the price for the following journeys?

1) Docking in berth (MS Royal Viking) to Luxor Temple?

2) Docking in berth to Ticket Office on the West Bank?

3) Ticket Office to the temple of Seti I + VOTK and back to the Ticket Office.

4) Ticket Office to the Ferry?

5) Ticket Office on the West Bank to Docking in berth?

If you are doing a full or half day over on the West Bank it is better to arrange a taxi for the day with him waiting for you at each venue then taking you onto the next etc. You can book this sort of thing beter when you are there and negotiate a price, or use one of the well known agents in the town, it will work out much better.

In my opinion, for what it's worth, you'd be as well talking to Mr Ahmed Balal, Petra Travel, now Oceanus, for your trip to Seti and the VoK. He has ALWAYS done a really good deal for me, and his drivers are safe and reliable. If your going to the VoK, you might fancy a trip up the Western Valley to see the tomb of Ay. Some Egyptologists believe ( and I'm with them) that it was originally started for Tutankhamen, and you can't mistake the entrance for anything other than a royal tomb! The valley itself is magnificent - the driver will stop to pick up the guardian with the keys as you enter - and I'd be surprised if you meet anyone else there.

If you want Mr Balal's email, so you can arrange your trip ahead of arriving in Luxor, let me know.

I have to agree with the others regarding Oceanus. I've not used his services for a Luxor based trip, but I have been with others on an excursion outside Luxor and the service was very good.

I live in Luxor and have done for many years and even so would use Oceanus for all my "big" trips but if your just going from the ferry (5le) to the ticket office you could get a tuk tuk, yes they are back, costs about 20le. Then it's walkable to Medinet Habu and cafe's round about to get a drink or snack.

Yes; I believe the tomb of Ay would be worth viewing. However; I managed to obtain a list of current prices and it states that a ticket to see Ay's tomb is: LE1,000! In English pounds that's approximately 50 quid! Isn't it?

I'd like to see Amemhotep's - on my previous visit it wasn't open to the public.

:o :o I'm sure that's not right. I bought my ticket at the office in the VoK, and it was cheaper than some of the other tombs, as I remember. The really expensive tombs are Nefertari and Seti, I think?

The 1000LE AS refers to is the price for Seti 1 and Nefertari.

Ay is, or was (Oct 2017) 40LE....they've been increasing the tickets recently so it may have gone up by a few LE. But not to 1000LE!

You can download all, or just the chapters relevant to your trip, for very little.
