Egyptair MS 778 LHR - CAI

Post by crewmeal » Sun Jun 10, 2018 1:48 pm

Why oh why does this flight always leave London up to an hout late every day? I've been monotoring the progress on a daily basis and in one case it was over 3 hours late leaving. This of course will put the fear of God into those with onward connections.

Yes I had this problem last year and only just made it to the connecting flight - the flight staff were waiting for me and I was literally the last person to board. It didn't do my BP any favours.

We did this route for the first time on Sunday 6th May, and our flight was also delayed. Once landed we still hadn't moved in the aisle at 22.10pm and our onward flight was due to take off at 22.45pm.! However, controlling a nervous breakdown going through immigration/security at Cairo, and having been escorted to the lift, taken up to the gate level, and pointed to the correct gate by a rather manic but useful little man, we boarded our flight and took off pretty rapidly, leaving only fifteen minutes late. Nope, it's definitely not good for the blood pressure!
That said, perhaps stupidly on our part, we are already booked for the same flight next year!! :D

My Friday flight leaves 30 mins later so even less time to connect. I don't fancy 10 hours hanging around the domestic terminal waiting for the morning flight (if there is any space of course).

As they say in the T.V. advert, "THAT'S NOTHING", once I was held on an EgyptAir plane for almost FIVE HOURS at Heathrow airport without being allowed off the plane.

Although most people on here, I expect would not believe this, that happened some years ago now, a few seats away, was an old friend of Stan's and the Dr, who I state was very fond of photography, again who I understand had a good camera stolen years ago.

A few days later, I saw her on her bicycle on the WB, and told her that I had obtained a free return flight to Heathrow and back as compo, but she did not want to bother.

I suddenly realised we entered the era where people no longer complain, and this is the result today that see above.

P.S.- the reason why I am writing all this, on here tonight, is because I am still waiting for a train in Central Europe that is now three hours late,.........will I claim compo,...........you bet. :wi :wi :wi .

Although the rules for compensation are complex - and airlines don't fall over themselves to be helpful - it's my unerstanding that , if you have a through ticket to Luxor, and miss the connection due to a delay in the incoming flight, Egyptair are obliged to get you to Luxor whatever, and to provide you with reasonable sustenance and accommodation if the delay is lengthy.

This is irrespective of whether the delay was beyond the airline's control.

If this flight is consistently late, wouldn't the Heathrow airport authorities want it sorting? Doesn't it disrupt them as well in any way?

Our first part of the delay was attributed to the aircraft arriving at LHR very late. The further delay was because once we boarded the plane, we were then held on the tarmac awaiting permission from air traffic control to proceed, and then we ended up in a huge queue en-route to the runway. As far as I am aware, airlines are charged hefty fines at the airports for missing their slots, so it must cost the airline a fortune to be consistently missing their schedules.

In my experience once the aircraft doors have been closed it's then class as departed. Once air traffic get you in the system it can take ages before you take off because of all the traffic in front. As we all know LHR is a pain at the best of times and the rate things are going an extra runway won't make that much difference.

We had a similar experience a few years ago. Long delay because cargo door would not lock, then claimed to be fixed so off we went only to have to return to Heathrow after about 20 minutes because the door warning came on again. We were around 6 hours late into Luxor on that trip.

Yes, I seem to remember this from years ago.

I cannot understand why people do not claim, if the aeroplane takes off from Europe, and there is a delay, then there is a claim, to and from the U.S., then there is a bigger claim.

When in the U.K. over the past two years I travel a lot in the South of England by train, either out of London Bridge or Victoria. I think I have claimed for full compensation on nearly every journey. Believe it or not, I have even filled in claim forms before the train has even departed, knowing full well that the train in question can not make up enough time to be on time at destination. My destinations in question have been London to either Brighton, Hove, Chichester, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Weymouth.

You constantly hear on the news people complain about the train service who travel every day, I would not, I would hope it remains the same, but then again I'm no fool. :wi .

Either go before 20th July or after 5th Sept or your looking over £500 return.
It is what it is.

Yes but some people's time is worth more than any compensation. I often find people's time is a cost that is seldom accounted for.

Compensation is also no good for anyone getting the old tin tack because they cant get into work on time.

Your ticket fare returned isn't going to put the shine back on in that scenario.

Fares to the UK are stupidly high at present so have decided to wait until September.
Plus time flies and I don't have to worry about the house/garden plants not being watered.
Mind you, I love London in the summer, pubs, al-fresco dining, and that M&S sell their summer clothes line.
Well the upside is, I get loads to chose from in the t-shirt/sweatshirt charity shops..
Every 'thrift shop has a silver lining... 8)
